I think you're missing the rather obvious possibility that if Napoli win tonight, we top the group by drawing this game. If Napoli and Shaktar draw, we top the group with a win.

So it is actually quite important, not a dead rubber at all.

But as has been pointed out, winning the group gets you the away leg first, which is worth having.

We need a Napoli & Shaktar draw because if Napoli beat them they'll be counting on us playing a full strength side over in Shaktar as they'll have a chance at qualification.

Yet again, we're being ignored on Irish terrestrial TV. Two stations over here have live CL games; TV3 on tuesday nights and RTE on wednesday nights. We didn't have a single group stage game shown live last season, and the trend has continued into this campaign. Tonight, we're being treated to Sevilla vs Liverpool, while tomorrow (amazingly) we have the Juve/Barca game and not our quiet neighbours. Most gameweeks, you can nearly put your mortgage on the two games shown being picked from Celtic, Liverpool and the vermin. I can't afford to subscribe to BT Sport and what passes for broadband over here in the sticks (2mb) will not support streams.

I want a 3-2 Napoli win, puts them out on away goals in the head to head.

If we win and shakhtar win top of the group still goes to the last game as it's head to head. This game is a dead rubber, Shakhtar weirdly might not be.

If we avoid defeat against Shakhtar in the last game then we top the group, regardless of tonight's result.

Exactly. There'll be good teams coming first and second in their groups, so you can't guarantee an easier draw either way, but playing away first is a definite advantage. Plus, winning the group keeps our momentum going, which is also a positive.

So it is actually quite important, not a dead rubber at all. If we lose, we may have to go to the Ukraine just before the rags game, needing to get something from the game.

Its Feyenoord we're up against. They can't even get a win in the Erediviese atm. And Shaktar plays away to a Napoli side that are desperate to win. We really should rest most of our starting players and give Brahim and Foden a real chance to impress.

It was also Wolves we were up against not so long ago.
