The trouble with Rico is that he doesn’t show any defensive qualities, even when playing right back. He says himself he prefers to be an attacking midfielder.

As was shown on Saturday his positional play and strength alongside an equally culpable Gundo were constantly exposed by Spurs

The midfield is not giving the defence the protection it needs. Especially when you have both full backs playing like wingers , they don’t drop in to cover like Rodri and previous DMs did
 
Pep was saying today that without Rodri and kova he would play 5 defenders.

Akanji & stones= rodri
Ake, Walker, Dias behind.

If and it’s a big if we get these players fit then he might have already decided how to fix the issues.

I would like to see this happen if possible. We will lose the weak centre that is not doing much anyway and start relying on the wing players to go and start scoring with Haaland. Whether that is out and out wingers like savio and Doku or wingers who come inside like Bernie, Jack and Foden.

Getting those defenders in place will hopefully stop the rot. When kova comes back he can still play a cb alongside him.

I think Gvardiol might be better suited than Akanji at stepping into centre mid although he's never played that role yet. He's a danger when he gets forward and has a bit more ability on the ball in the final third.

Gvardiol and Stones in centre mid with Akanji, Dias and Ake as a back 3 could work well.

Just need to get them all fit :)

We got to start somewhere. Get the defenders on to help control midfield and stop so many counters. It will mean tho that when we get to the opponent box we will probably pass it side to side a lot.

At the moment I would take that instead of getting ripped apart.

Defence is seemingly the priority.

Kev feeling good could really aid us at this time. He can make those runs forward knowing that he will have adequate cover behind. Give the wingers more licence to roam forward.

Rico has the legs. Is that a joke? I’m 53yo and think I’m quicker. The midfield lacks physicality. Nunes and O’Reilly should start imo. Let’s at least play players who can cover the ground.
 
Pep was great in his press conference today. We are in good hands. When everyone is Match fit, he will have us purring again.
 
Not far off being 'must win' territory this one, if only to shut the media up. If we lose six on the bounce, then the vultures will be circling.

I think we just need a bit of luck and a moment of magic to get us going again.
