FFPR-TV Money Disparity

Would pretty much require a complete revolution within football. To get a UEFA licence you need to comply, for England to compete in Euro 2012 or any similar tournament they need their member clubs to comply fully and if they don't they can easily cast the whole nation aside. To attempt to create our own tournament in protest at rules aimed at encouraging sensible spending is ridiculous. The way we spend now is not sustainable, i'm thankful for the fact we are now in a position to really go places but business wise it cannot continue, the Sheikh is rich but he doesn't want to ply billions into this club without a personal guarantee that he will see a return, the return he demands is Manchester City's global domination, we can't attract any players to achieve this without Champions League football, therefore there is no other way around it, we must do what is needed to fully comply with these rules.

Even our own chairman has said things cannot continue without a massive increase in income. If it was so easy to get around these rules then they'd of thrown them in the toilet but we are complying as a means of increasing our turnover, there is no easy way out when it comes to this. We can try and sue UEFA but at the end of the day they own the global rights to their Champions League, Europa League brands and can determine who is eligible for entry and who isn't as they see fit it has nothing to with restriction of trade or however else you want to coin it, they make the rules, if we don't follow we don't get into their competitions.

Call the FFP what you want, UEFA money making control scheme or an actual fair play ruling, whatever happens this system will come into force it already has and if we don't plan on complying or causing trouble you can kiss goodbye to any form of European football, we will be frozen out.

Ironically you can have an ESL within UEFA as the big clubs will always be at the top, and the CL will become so uncompetitive that the Europa League will become a massive B tournament and the elite will compete in the CL.

Increasing our turnover is why I posted about TV money, we could double/triple our income if we got the same TV money as the Spanish elite.

Here is a nice thought for you if you see TV revenues as (obviously) a quick way of increasing T/O.

Why have City NOT got a TV channel?

Think on this one and tell me if I am wrong.

ALL TV EPL deals across the globe are centrally negotiated and divided on a formula we are all aware of.

But Web deals are exempt from the central negotiations and each club can run their deals independently.

I am not saying City will stream content on PPV on top of the current deal, but all other content for City is done on the web (Reserves, training, interviews etc) United, Liverpool and Chelsea have nor web presence but their own TV channels.

Why the difference?

Definitely, the Spanish league has a massive advantage over us, it's interesting to see though that clubs like Barcelona recieve these huge amounts of money and are still saddled in debt. UEFA would always argue though that La Liga and the Spanish FA make the rules and that if the English wanted to be more competitive they should open up the TV money to the highest bidder, basically they'll say its not their problem.

The problem UEFA may have is that due to the economic downturn its highly possible that the Champions League is just a league full of teams who have been well run financially rather then who is the most competitive. Think i read in one of their own reports around 12-20 clubs already competing in Europe are on target to fail to comply with the FFP rules.

yhp, plenty of big names, even United on last year's loss if that isn't turned around.

FC Bayern v Arsenal final every year lol.

It would also be interesting to see what UEFA say to Real over their favourable bank loans and governmental backing...

probably because it's either...

a) in the pipeline but wanted to be perfected and ahead of the game.
b) not viable without live football or our brand being big enough.
c) Sky is so far up the rags arse it's untrue?

...and so Financial Fair Play could, ironically, create greater disparity as the existing European elite try to self perpetuate (again) by sorting out their own TV rights. Grrrr! Pisses me off, the notion of 'worthy' money i.e. that earned by rags, Arsenal et al by sorting out the Champions league, so that they maintain their greater turnover year after year (seedings, qualify even if you're not champions, guaranteed number of games). It is because of this that clubs like us use 'morally corrupt' money in attempt to close the gap, after they have tried to pull up the metaphorical ladder.

The market value test and the fact that you cannot owe taxes will be mighty big fails for Barca and Real.

Spanish teams are very unhappy with their current TV deals.

There has been threats of a strike if something is not done to increase the share of TV money.

what's worthy money:

a) money given to you by rich people who own private businesses who want to earn more money through exposure by you spending all the money they give you.

b) money given to you by rich people who own private businesses who want to earn more money through exposure by you spending all the money they give you.

United could easily comply but they'll be stuffed when it comes to playing any decent team. No transfer money to compete.

Funny for them because the 500 Million bond issue never took into account this rule change, the risks were all labelled simply as we need to qualify every year to get into the competition and that's your money safe. Now the people who signed up to lend that bond have to contend with a risk they didn't have before, a risk which could stop United from even qualifying because of the debt they signed up for, ah irony!

Barca went against the last proposals iirc because they wanted to keep their own share and essentially wanted someone else to pick up the bill and increase the other teams TV money, but still not to their level.

"A new audit into Barcelona's finances have revealed the club's debt is 442m euros (£369.5m) after a loss of more than 77m euros (£64.36m) last season."

They really are stuffed if it came to a different but fairer TV money sharing system.
