To get a UEFA licence you need to comply, for England to compete in Euro 2012 or any similar tournament they need their member clubs to comply fully and if they don't they can easily cast the whole nation aside. To attempt to create our own tournament in protest at rules aimed at encouraging sensible spending is ridiculous. The way we spend now is not sustainable, i'm thankful for the fact we are now in a position to really go places but business wise it cannot continue, the Sheikh is rich but he doesn't want to ply billions into this club without a personal guarantee that he will see a return, the return he demands is Manchester City's global domination, we can't attract any players to achieve this without Champions League football, therefore there is no other way around it, we must do what is needed to fully comply with these rules.
Even our own chairman has said things cannot continue without a massive increase in income. If it was so easy to get around these rules then they'd of thrown them in the toilet but we are complying as a means of increasing our turnover, there is no easy way out when it comes to this. We can try and sue UEFA but at the end of the day they own the global rights to their Champions League, Europa League brands and can determine who is eligible for entry and who isn't as they see fit it has nothing to with restriction of trade or however else you want to coin it, they make the rules, if we don't follow we don't get into their competitions.
Call the FFP what you want, UEFA money making control scheme or an actual fair play ruling, whatever happens this system will come into force it already has and if we don't plan on complying or causing trouble you can kiss goodbye to any form of European football, we will be frozen out.
Ironically you can have an ESL within UEFA as the big clubs will always be at the top, and the CL will become so uncompetitive that the Europa League will become a massive B tournament and the elite will compete in the CL.
Increasing our turnover is why I posted about TV money, we could double/triple our income if we got the same TV money as the Spanish elite.
Here is a nice thought for you if you see TV revenues as (obviously) a quick way of increasing T/O.
Why have City NOT got a TV channel?
Think on this one and tell me if I am wrong.
ALL TV EPL deals across the globe are centrally negotiated and divided on a formula we are all aware of.
But Web deals are exempt from the central negotiations and each club can run their deals independently.
I am not saying City will stream content on PPV on top of the current deal, but all other content for City is done on the web (Reserves, training, interviews etc) United, Liverpool and Chelsea have nor web presence but their own TV channels.
Why the difference?
