Mate, I understand your passion. I get your heart is blue - 'never boo a blue', tattoo the club onto the soul and all that, we all love the club, we all want progress, we all accept where we were 10 years ago. But you can't tell people to fuck off just because they have concerns, some of which are completely justified. You have to put things into context. Whils't it's important to remember where we have been, we can't live in the past. Liverpool fans have been doing this for years and struggling to accept the present. We now need to accept our present, which to be honest, is look at reality far more harshly and objective, we as fans need to be winners too. Granted we have won fuck all for donkeys years, but we need to step up ourselves. Not just in our loyalty to the club. That will always be there. But step up our discussion and debates with each other to a higher winning mentality. We are not close to being a GREAT side until we win something and are regularly competing at the top end. But we have the potential to be. And this is a very important season, where we can no longer accept a 5th place finish. It is still early to call where we will likely finish yes, but just because we sit 4th now, doesn't mask the fact that Mancini is refusing to abandon caution, playing players in positions they don't naturally play. Teams will only obtain results when playing average/poor for so long. We have played average for a large part of the season so far no matter how many or few games played. Liverpool and Chelsea at home were exceptions. Those games required more caution and patience. But we are witnessing City play poor against Wigan away (we were crap and anyone who went knows it), Blackpool away, Wolves away, and the concern is justified, because in order to cement a place in the top 4 and be up there challenging for the title or second (which is what the hierarchy will be expecting this season) requires consistency not just in obtaining results at home, but performances which over the course of a long season, set the context for whether we are more likely to win games, than merely trying to avoid defeat. We need to avoid getting into a battle with Spurs, Everton and the rest, for 4th. We need to be in the mix with Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal challenging for the top and then 4th will take care of itself. And 2 defeats on the trot (whilst understandable against Arsenal with 10 men) and negative things coming out of the club, playing poorly, creating few chances, having no width, leaves many fans with just as much cynicism as optimism.
We are 4th yes, but these things start to iron themselves out now, and the concern is, we are going backwards in performances rather than forwards, which will eventually reflect itself in the league table. There are still positives. Like Mancini working on the discipline (on the pitch) and mentality in the big games, but he needs to trust the players much more, set us up much more dominantly in terms of being attacking and not just tough, play players in the right positions (instead of playing Milner in some stupid vague position) and play Johnson regularly because he is the only player who offers constant attacking threat out wide
