You're not alone. I too am subject to vitriol and bile from opposing fans ("Ha ha. All that money and you couldn't even beat Stoke").
I usually say: "What's with you lot suddenly being so concerned about little old City? A couple of years back you couldn't have given a fuck about our results or what we're doing. Now you scan every tabloid to see what we've done, where we're going, who's signing, etc".
Basically, up until now we were never considered a serious threat to the top 4 and their monopoly. Now things have changed and we've become a serious fucking threat to everyone. They know full well in the very near future one or two of them will be losing their place at the top of the tree, and us and the likes of Spuds and Villa are about to upset their cosy little cartel.

That's my line and approach. Don't be direct and ask them "if they go" as they'll know what you are on. Go straight for the "saw you at the ground" line. Worked for me so many times, inc the Cup Semi and it leaves them cold.

Just rise above the scum. Where I am, any rags are plastics who never get closer to the ground than their armchair. They're easy to deal with as they usually don't even know who they're playing from one week to the next, so put downs are plentiful.
As a blue, I've got well used to the jibes over many years, as I'm sure we all have, its just water of a duck's back these days. They're making the most of it now, as they can see the shoe might be on the other foot some day soon.
