FIFA delegates getting their cummupence! Blatter GONE today.

Absolute Bollocks!

The only reason why this has blown up now is because the Ameriturds want to try to stop Russia from hosting the World Cup end of. This is all purely geopolitical on the Ameriturds side.

I'm certain Qatar will continue to host the World Cup, as an earlier poster has already said the Ameriturds have a huge military base in Qatar and frankly Qatar is just their friendly neighborhood puppet government, so there's no reason why the Ameriturds will stop them from hosting it in 2022.

I remember a BBC Panorama documentary years back claiming corruption behind the Mexico'86 World Cup tournament when Havalange was FIFA boss, so corruption is nothing new where FIFA is concerned.

I guarantee this is purely a political stunt by the Ameriturds to ruin Russia's plans for 2018.
I'm getting the impression that you're not a fan of the USA.

Ameriturds, I mean that alone should really warrent a caution for being so terribly uncreative, and using an Americ*nt term for fecal matter.

Anyhow while I'm undecided on what Americans motivations are for this I am simply thankful that the wholly corrupt FIFA gets to be the casuality in this supposed proxy war.

Quite possibly the stupidest post I've ever seen here. Congratulations.
You don't come on a lot then. The post you are quoting is nowhere near the levels of stupidity found on the General Election thread, and any thread involving a shooting in America! Also, maybe the language in the post is a bit raw, but I'd suggest there's something in it, as I'm not convinced that the American's are investigating FIFA out of any altruistic reasons.

Call me a cynic, but if England (or anybody but Russia for that matter) got 18, and the US got 22 by fair or foul means, this investigation would not be taking place, and Blatter would still be president.

You're right about that insofar as I've never once come onto Bluemoon and spent any time reading (nor posting on) non-footy threads. Though I suppose the muffin v. barm debate seems to make into every forum somehow.

"Getting at" Russia is a side benefit, if there's any getting (there won't be). The roots of this investigation are more than two decades old. It didn't magically appear with the crisis in Crimea/Ukraine.

And when you've got jurisdictional grounds, a guy wearing a wire, pleading guilty to accepting bribes (a particular crime which, as I've already pointed out on this thread, disgusts Americans far beyond what non-Americans understand) among other things, who can then rat out everyone in a huge organization where RICO statutes can be applied, you can damn well expect the US Attorney's office is going to make some hay and some headlines. There are field offices of the FBI where entire careers are going to be made on this one case.

Agreed the goals aren't altruistic, even though evil is being punished. But the lack of altruism hangs on the ambition of law enforcement. It's not political. It's careerism. Which is quite American.

Irish FA accepted a multi million pound backhander off FIFA to stop them taking action over the Thiery Henry hand ball that stopped Ireland progressing to the World Cup, Irish FA just as bad as FIFA if that is correct

"The Republic of Ireland were 16 minutes away from a place in the 2010 finals before Gallas's extra-time equaliser in the second leg of the play-off in Paris."

But were they? From what I remember, France won the first match in Dublin 1-0, and Ireland were leading 1-0 in Paris, so it would have gone to penalties after extra time. I might be wrong, but that's what I recall.

I find his moronic reference to ameriturds annoying but I don't think he is far from correct in his thought process.
He's pretty far off. Much will be down to how US Attorneys operate. They're sort of like cannibalistic sharks in a fairly small tank of water. There are only so many promotion slots and it's in your best interest to successfully prosecute high profile cases. The new Attorney General is the one that put this case together. It's a big part of why she's the new Attorney General. This FIFA case might make or break multiple careers. As another factor, consider that this gets a bit of coverage on dedicated sports sites and a mention or two on US news sites and I've yet to see a politician talking about it. As a nation, we don't care. Last night, my wife asked me what a FIFA is since she knows I get up well before she does on Saturday mornings to watch City and she knows this has something to do with football.

She's actually more interested because her dad was one of the lead prosecutors that took down AT&T in the early 80's. ;)
