right seems all ok thank goodness!

What advantage does it give having a fighter jet shadow a plane with a possible device on board? I cant imagine how awful it would be for the pilot to have to shoot it out of the air is that ever an option?

If you just want to blow up a jet you don't need to tell them there is a device. You just use it.
Claiming there is a device on board is a threat which is then used to do something else. That something else may be worse than blowing up the jet. A fighter escort gives the possibility of choosing the lesser of two evils. The guy on the trigger has a tough job but the guy making the decision has an even tougher one.

Who would make the final decision to blow up a plane with hundreds of civilians on it?

Has it ever happened?

I miss the days you could get on a plane without fear of it being shot down/blown up.
There are billions of more likely ways to die than by being blown up on a plane!

Yeah I know. But during the 90's I flew a lot and never had a worry about it as if it crashed that's the risk you take but now you also have to worry some religious nut job with a bomb up his arse.

Anyone else see the pic of the arrested guy and auto-think 'Brit pisshead'?
Was thinking exactly the same :))
Sky saying he made a hoax bomb threat, WTF goes through their heads?
He will get time, lose his job, never be allowed to fly again what a bellend
Will he get billed for all this as well?

So; let me get this right. You're saying that you think the bloke is a ****, yes?
Sorry Jim.

Cannot believe some random **** has put all those people through that. Glad all are safe but that bloke deserves everything that will be coming to him.

Always thought there was a good chance the 9/11 plane aimed at the White house might have been shot down, it was the last one in the air.

I hope he has to pay every last penny for everything that has gone on. Must have cost a fair few quid.

Yes. The Russians shot down a Korean jet just for the suspicion it was spying! So far in this scenario it hasn't happened but I'm quite sure if it came to it, it would. Without doubt in the US or Israel and probably in the UK. If it didn't the first time it would the second.

imagine if you were on one of the planes diverted to Leeds and you lived in Leeds - yay - then you remembered you had left your car parked at Manchester airport - oh shit :(

When de niro went on the trip to the Faroes they got a 'lift' on a plane back to Manchester - sadly the cars were in Aberdeen!
