I've just purchased a damn fine piece of fillet steak at half price in Tesco today. Anyway, I normally pan fry it and try and get as close to medium-rare as my cooking skills allow.

Is the best way to just blast it at a high temperature or is there a better way to cook fillet? Oven? Grill? Any advice for cooking the perfect steak people?

Yes, I'll be having chips, fried onions and mushrooms with it, yum!

I like mine cooked, preferably burnt on the outside. None of this medium rare/rare rubbish.

Plus i've seen what's inside people who eat alot of meat that's not cooked properly.

Doesn't taste nice unless it's nice and pink, hence why a lot of people douse theirs in sauce. You remind me of my father. Asked by a waiter in a restauraunt how he liked his steak cooked one day he replied, ..........'cremate the bloody thing.'

oh yeah, slap some garlic, pepper and salt on for extra taste!

Be more specific Deco, just crush the garlic clove and throw it on the steak?

I wonder what it'd be like oven cooked?

Perhaps grate it into some oil, with salt and pepper (maybe chilli?) then brush the oil onto the steak? Just speculating, i've done anything with steak other than grill it.

Nothing that cool. Various parasitology and infection courses at University, we've had infected livers and things to dissect, pretty manky. The French are the worst apparently, highest rates of parasitic worm infections in the developed world.

The french eat them blue though, that's way too much for me!!

right guys this is what im bringing to the table

slap the steak on gridle oil it up and the usual stuff yes?, just drop abit of salt and pepper over the steak yes? then with the garlic cut it into small pieces slap it onto the steak and whilst cooking mix it all in yes?

fillet steak with salt pepper and garilc.......

DONE!

You'd have been better of with Ribeye, it has more taste and is nearly as tender. Fillet is a little bland for my tastes.

Marinade it in bit of olive oil, with balck pepper, just for ten or fifteen minutes, then slap it on a hot griddle pan. Serve with garlic mashed potatos.....haeven.

I can vouch for the French liking meat rare/ virtually raw! My ex-girlfriend was French and when she cooked meat it literally hit the pan for a minute each side! When you go to France and order steak/ meat you always have to ask for it to be done well and it will come out medium/ rare!
