Finishing 5th

I would say Liverpool.

Liverpool are going to strengthen considerably this summer. And even with the squad they have they might push for the title. The confidence and belief that Dalglish has installed into them is something money can't buy - it's kind of like what we had with Pearce when he first came. So some European distraction that seems important will be handy for City.

But Tottenham will struggle next season. Unless the owners provide funds for a couple more players (like a top striker and a back up or two) then I can't see them finishing above 4th. I reckon we can push for the title for a bit longer next season and possbly end up 2nd or 3rd. But I think our days of worrying about whether we'll secure Champions League football are close to being over.

Hey, did anyone see that? A positive comment from me.

I think that this 'concentrating' idea is a bit of a myth. Look at all the teams who have just had to concentrate on the League and they've done nowt. The more comps yer in, the better it is for the whole squad.

Winning a competition or being well-placed in them is down to the quality in the squad, the quality of the management team, the fans, how many times MANUre get a leg up from assorted refs, and how many times we have Crappenberg during the season.

When was the last time that a team that didn't have Euro commitments last win the PL?

Teams that go out of the Euros and fail in the league just aren't good enough or are poor on the blance sheet!

Liverpool could get away with playing weakened team in the Europa League because they have a manager who doesn't need to win every game.

It was a problem for us because we had a manager under siege and we also wanted to win the competition...until it became impossible

England/the English league isn't top of the Euro Fair Play League to allow Spurs to get in.

I'd rather Liverpool finish 5th and Spurs finish 6th.

Liverpool are not as good as people are suggesting, and this idea that they will recruit lots in the summer and be title contenders next season (being spouted by their fans) needs critical examination. The only reason why they have improved since Hodgson, is because Dalglish has made the environment a happy place, instilled them with confidence, and managed the players well. Overall, their performances have been patchy. They haven't been great. Nor have they got a great side/squad. Don't let the results fool you. We were as bad as we have been all season against them in the first half. Yes, you have to give them credit for pressing etc, but they have managed to get an early goal in a few games recently, and Birmingham were appalling, and Newcastle were already on the beach.

However, I want them to finish 5th because they will be playing catch up games on the sunday and monday next season if in the Europa, which will test some of their younger players mentally. Spurs finishing 6th, might entice some of their top players to want to leave, and Redknapp will have one eye on the England job the following season after the Euro's.

Re: us, and this week. Everton is such a big game. If we win, we are almost there. In fact, should Blackpool pull off a shock, and we win, it will mean, by Monday evening, we could already have achieved 4th minimum. I don't expect Blackpool to win, however, Spurs/Liverpool are banking on us dropping points at Everton. Going there and winning the game, would be almost the final nail in the coffin. I actually see us winning every game until the end of the season. I believe the semi final has given us an infectious sense of drive and desire to get over the line collectively.

I think both Dalglish and Redknapp have hinted that if they get in the Europa they will play weak / young teams and not take it seriously ... actually, Redknapp did more than hint; he said at the weekend that the Europa was rubbish and no-one took it seriously ... so I don't think it will be much of a drain on whoever gets 5th.

Gomes is certainly playing asthough he wants 6th.

Whoah steady on there mate. It sounds like you have us nailed on for 4th. TBH i couldnt careless who it is as long we finish above both.

If we dont finish 4th i hope we finish 6th, i think playing in europa league cost us a couple of points.

Really! I hope we finish 3rd.

-- Tue May 03, 2011 11:09 am --
