First City Legend Statue

is that right? cheers Gary, been a few years since ive been there, now i have a solid gold reason
Yes. Go up the stairs and you'll see it on the far right. Some think it shouldn't be there but in some ways it's the perfect example of how out of touch some modern owners may be with their supporters. It's not there to glorify Al Fayed or Jackson, but it is there to raise debate.

It shows as well though how club owners should think long and hard about who they pay tribute to - individuals, whether they be club legends or the favourites of the owners, may not always be viewed positively or be representative of a club's true history. When I set up the original MCFC museum in 2003 the plan was to have 3 statue-type figures - Trautmann, Bell and Meredith - to represent 3 eras and major stories. However, Anelka was playing for City and one of the key decision makers (not going to name names here today! This was after Chris Bird had left though) said "no one will know who Meredith is, let's have Anelka". I explained that Anelka may well be our best player today (this was 2003 of course!) but what if he leaves us? What if he signs for our biggest rivals? What if he gets arrested or says he hates City? etc. I also explained that the purpose of having Meredith was to allow us to educate fans and the general public about our formative years and history.

I lost the Meredith debate unfortunately but managed to stop us having an Anelka statue-type figure. The Trautmann and Bell figures were made and still exist within the club, but it does show how any debate about statues, legends and so on needs to consider the long view, not today's view. The same was true for the Hall of Fame when I first proposed it to Chris Bird. He backed the idea fully and agreed with the concept of fans being able to nominate any player, followed by a supporter vote and ratification by a panel of experts. While we did that the process worked and appropriate people were considered.

Has to be our greatest ever signing
