Not really they are owned by First who also own the rubbish Avanti Company and used to run the East Coast service before losing their franchise for being crap, to the state owned LNER East Coast company.

Lumo run shorter trains (5 coaches) than LNER and usually only stop at Berwick, Morpeth, and Newcastle rather than stopping at Darlington, York, Doncaster, etc. They are usually slightly cheaper than LNER but you have to order (and pay for) food in advance apart from crisps. The staff are quite friendly.
