First game at City of Manchester Stadium

Barca was Saturday, TNS was the next Thursday - I remember this very well as I spent the first three weeks of August in Boston - flying home specially for those two matches (and the Portsmouth 1-1, Yakubu for them, and a Sommeil equaliser) right smack bang in the middle of it

I think Barca was the Sunday. Didn't Trevor Sinclair score the first ever goal at The COMS? Or perhaps he just scored that day.

My 1st game was Portsmouth. That season it was hard to get a ticket we sold out every match even the away followings were good a part from Charlton

Barcelona was the sunday, Anelka scored the 1st goal at the stadium, Sinclair got the winner in a 2-1 win, we played TNS the following thursday in the 1st competative game Sinclair got the opener, we started PL the sunday in a 3-0 win at Charlton we then played Portsmouth in the 1st home league game Sommeil equalised at the death to make it 1-1

Average attendance that particular season was 46,834 ...... only around 200 short of last seasons title winning average crowd of just over 47,000

some glory hunters eh ?

:)

I think you will find it dropped back quite a few thousand after the 'thrill' of having a new home, and was at 42,000'ish I think I am right in saying, even as late as 2008/09

Seasoncard renewals were way down after the 10 goals season. I heard a story about a group of 8 who sat together where none of them planned to renew as they weren't enjoying it anymore. I bet they all go now!

what happened to the old announcer? always wanted to ask but thought nobody would care, much better than our one now
He f**ked off to do the job in trafford, good riddence.

I hate that ****. Alan Keegan; a more arrogant prick you will never see. And he said he was a City fan and had the best job in the world when he was our stadium announcer.

Sinclair scored first against TNS and we won 5-0 (I think). I remember because I won a few quid on the scorecast.

The best thing about the Barca game was that Ronaldinho had just signed for them after rejecting United and the fans let him know how much we appreciated it.

I remember the Ronaldinho is a blue chants that day, he came off the bench if I remember rightly.

I'd gone down and bought the new shirt the week before and was a bit pissed off that a few mates I went to the Barca game with bought theirs at the game and got a free City football! haha

Always remember the TNS fan's turning up wearing green blazers with shirt and tie. Very formal, somehow never caught on with the City faithful.

Didn't Puyol get boo'd because he had praised united just before the game?

I think I saw french tony that game with a lovely bit of skill on the by line by the east stand. Thought he was gonna be a world beater

Memory is hazy here btw, someone's probably going to tell me now that neither Puyol or French Tony played in that game...

Nope started the game. I remember because Barca's manager wanted to take him offbut he wanted to stay on and take a free kick. cue the city fans chanting off off off at him, haha

Remember all the cheers going up every time ronaldinho got the ball because of his rejection of the scum :D

Our first game was tns, lovely summers evening and a real strole in the park to be honest. There was issues about a safety certificate so city couldn't sell all their tickets and tns fans came in a taxi!

I remember getting loads of funny looks as cheering gary brabin who was playing for tns, he'd been a cult hero at doncaster and then he tried to kick one of our lads over level 3... Just like old times for breadbin!!

As for the increase in attendance, there was a real excitement about the new ground and we'd been selling out maine road constantly for the two previous seasons as well. Keegan's team played some excellent football too.

Loved maine road but to be fair eastlands is pretty cool.

Can't believe how quick time has gone, went to the Barcelona game. And shortly after, my first ever European away game, tns in Cardiff under the roof, Poland take note. Now Ajax on Wednesday, oh how things have changed.
