FIRST TIME TO MANCHESTER SEEKING ADVICE

Sorry for bumping up an old thread, but I just wanted to say one final thank you to each and every one of you who offered your advice, before I depart for Manchester this week. You've all been a great help, and will make my Manchester experience so much easier and more enjoyable. Looking forward to joining many of you at Old Trafford, and the Bolton home game!

Well in mate, glad to see you got sorted.

I know when I've been over, if it wasn't for the generosity and assistance of fellow blues, I would have been fucked.

Best fans in the land and all that. ;)

What are the best pubs and/or nightspots for people around our age?

Depends on your music taste entirely. There are a lot of student pubs and clubs around oxford road and fallowfield and the birds will love your accent. id recommend cheap drinks in sinclares in the city centre, the place youd have seen videos of hundreds of city fans gathering before the chelsea match last season when we signed robinho, and the hamburg match. great pub and very cheap. printworks is across the road but im not a fan of the place so i wont recommend it. manchester has loads of clubs. try sankeys.

What are the main things you'd recommend for a tourist to do in Manchester and the North West?

manchester doesnt have much for tourists, its just a city, its not like london where you can spend hours seeing things. surrounding areas has plenty. even york is an hour or so away on the train and a nice place to visit. go for a curry or 5 in the curry mile thats about it. its just a city. great place to live and visit but not much for the tourist wanting sights and photos.

Are there any areas I should avoid to stay out of trouble?

you would have no real reason to visit these places in the first place theres not much in areas like moss side, longsight, salford, beswick, wythenshawe, theyre just housing estates

And any other advice you may have to assist me in enjoying my first trip to Manchester.

dont take things too seriously. as someone who isnt a mancunian people like to try and take the piss out of accents but its almost always in good humour. mancunians have a bit of a weird manner ;)

Make sure you take the time to visit Old Trafford and visit the museam.
The Imperial War Museam (North) would also be worth a visit

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.themitrehotel.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.themitrehotel.net/</a> is a reasonable and cheap hotel in a prime location (& 24 hour residents bar), beside the Printworks, Sinclairs Oyster bar and accross the streat from the Arndale Centre in centre of town.

Some of the Cricket memorability in the Old Trafford Museam is excellant (but beware the stench that can come from the Swamp nearby).

Fifth Avenue is alright for indie and also 42s is good, Satans hollow for EMO!, Area 51 for rave rave rave, sankey soaps for rave rave rave, PURE for a massive club and commerical dance, theres loadsa stuff on at different places really google it. Also shud go out in livrpool aswell thats a good night out and has all the beatles touristy things to do
In the day u cud just go round all the shops and theres a massive ferris wheel, also try this places is great for shopping and cinema <a class="postlink" href="http://www.traffordcentre.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.traffordcentre.co.uk/</a> <a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMdf5BvvxUI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMdf5BvvxUI</a>
