The cheapest fares on Virgin are usually available about 8 weeks in advance.

Go on the trainline.com website and sign up for advance fare alerts. You can put in the destination and date you want and they email you as soon as the cheap advance fares come in (usually 12 weeks before). Got my Stoke tickets for £12.30 return so far.
