Florian Wirtz

Cherki attitude issues are to do with him in training, he's not a good trainer according to info online very lazy during training. But he's got 19 assists and 12 goals this season with Wirtz not coming surely he's worth a gamble.
no opinion on Cherki, but lazy trainers aren’t always the worst!
By all accounts aguero was one of the worst trainers at the club and I’d kill everyone in this thread to have him back in his pomp now!

On the other hand you do get players like ballotelli!
You never really know without the risk

I don’t agree that calling him expensive is the right call. It’s made all the fans have a melt down. He’s not too expensive. That’s the thing. Nobody is too expensive when you desperately need their abilities. Especially when they come out saying Olmo is an alternative. That just makes things worse. He plays like 1600 mins for the last 3 seasons. Muscular injuries since 2021. The club literally said they only want players that can play every 3 days. I just want consistency and intent.

Talking about the season we had. Nobody expected it but the club ignored the warning signs last season (every time Rodri was out we stunk and we had no business winning the league it took a ballon dor campaign and Foden playing out of skin to win POTY)

The club could’ve planned for Kevin’s successor like they did with getting Rodri before we phased out Fernandinho. Who taught Rodri the ropes and that would’ve been great to see Kev be a mentor, I doubt anyone would’ve hated that.

I’m not asking the club to be perfect. They’ve missed out on 3 first choice targets now. It’s not acceptable but life’s a bitch. They can still rectify their mistakes and show intent in the market.

At least the story is over before the window started. We don’t have to talk about Wirtz again. He made his choice. We can still have a great window
I mean, I get what you're saying. But, in the past 7-8 years or so, other clubs have jacked up their prices on us simply because they think we can afford it. And perhaps they're not wrong. But when prices go up simply because "Its City, they can afford it. If they want him bad enough, they'll pay", sorry, if I'm Hugo Viana, I'm saying nah mate.

There was no learning curve for Rodri. He came to us in July 2019, played the Shield in August and had 38 appearances for us in the Prem. Played all 8 games in the UCL, all 8 in EFL and FA Cup. If he was an understudy, its the fastest we'll ever see. As for Kevin's successor, I think that's the issue right there. Kevin still thinks he can play. And he thought his future was his to determine. So we bring in a guy to replace him. I'm not sure Kevin would have been in "mentor mode". Clearly he thinks he can still be the #1 midfielder here. Not sure how that would have worked out.

So if the stories are true and we've missed out on Wirtz, who are the other 2 targets we missed?

Ultimately we need a squad with more pace. I think the Club can get some work done in the window but we have to have fast players and an uptempo offense.

Think it’s fairly obvious that he was genuinely interested in joining us, right up to last week, but has now decided against it.
Obviously no idea as to the exact reasons. But I dare say that, were it the city of two years ago who were knocking on his door, as comfortably the best team in Europe, he’d have been all over us. Perhaps a reminder how quickly things can change and how costly it can be to take your eye off the ball. Disappointing but we move on. Hopefully the signings we make will mean no-one is too arsed about this come August.

I also think players could look at how many players join us then barely get a kick.

If I was a young player and looking at how often quite a few new signings for city hardly get a game, I think i'd wonder if it's the right move.

But at the same time, players should be confident they're good enough to become a regular.

spending millions on mediocre children who cant make the bench but penny pinching over real quality. club simply does not want to compete next season, and this guarantees we won't. disgusting stuff

Are you learning impaired?

Can't you read between the lines?

We either got straight rejected or the Wirtz family wanted money under the table in a shady hush hush agreement and City balked.

Can't believe we have some people here with half the IQ of their age!

Yeah, but I can’t really see that being a factor here. Wirtz knows he’s good enough to come straight in as a key player for us.
Might have nothing to do with us, of course. Maybe Bayern have managed to put together a really impressive financial package, or he might just have been particularly impressed by what he heard from them.
Or maybe he was on the fence, watched our last two matches, and thought “fuck me, no thanks” …

Clearly the guy has too much pressure to join Bayern with his own parents breathing down his neck.
The visit to Manchester exercise would be to appease City and Leverkusen as Pep indeed call him and showed him the vision. He wanted to show Leverkusen he did try Man City.

It was a reluctant date that ended with a bad coffee and an awkward hug.
As soon as you are back home, you block the number and move on with your life.

Don't know why everyone is that arsed ,either both or 1 side had their reasons,so you can't force something that's not meant to be. If you try it never works out well

Agree with this. If the opposition don't want to play football there isn't much you can do about it. Each game we play I hope we get an early goal to prise the fuckers away from their own 18 yard box and then the game can become more open. Unfortunately this season the exact opposite usually occurs and it's them that's scored first and the very little ambition they had going forward to begin with has almost gone altogether.

It's like those saying we need to play to Haaland's strengths. His strengths are chasing balls in behind. Sides are fully aware of this now so they just sit deep and that alone pretty much neutralises this threat altogether. Often rendering Haaland a passenger for most of the game. He's poor in the air for his size and his touch generally isn't great in and around packed boxes. The only time Erling really becomes effective is in the rare games we've gone a couple ahead and the opposition are forced to throw caution to the wind and spaces open up for him. He'd be more effective in a counter-attacking side and not one that dominates possession, but the build up play is slow and ponderous.

No, it really hasn't. Just a few of a certain disposition on here.

I used Rodri because I thought that was a brilliant use of good squad planning. A succession plan in place when our best players leave. Funny enough that was what the academy was meant for. A pipeline that would provide future starts for the club but it’s more of a cash cow now. Anyway. I thought we got to pay less since Bayer Leverkusen never wanted to sell to Bayern. 100m for us 150m for them. So I’m not sure how the price went up.

But you’re right Kev clearly thought he was still good enough which is why he was shocked the club didn’t renew his massive contract. Strange imo, it’s like when Walker still thought he was able to play at a high level after last season. It’s abit sad they don’t think they’re past it.

Peps first choice targets were Jude and Rice. After the treble he said he wanted duel winners, pace and power. That steel in midfield with Rodri would’ve been city 4.0 but we didn’t get them because they too rejected us.

Now that I think about it … idk how can we even add more pace to the team. Have you seen that graph how we’re the slowest team in the league. Prefer my intricate play. We’re the least direct side. The players like Bernardo do a 180 when we on half a transition. The team doesn’t look for space in behind. But Pep also pleads for more passes for control and rhythm so. I think both the manager (play style) and the players need to change for our pace to change. We’ve signed Doku, Nunes, Savio, Kova, Gvardiol. And we still play slow. It starts with Pep imo.

Remember that goal Doku scored in the UCL it was a transition goal and everyone was so shocked cuz we barely ever score goals like that when the opposition defence is running back towards their goal. It was so refreshing. It would be great to not be so one dimensional and predictable. Harder to defend against and easier/better to watch as a fan

Well, considering we usually buy a player who has already played at the top level, and is usually a full international already, and spend €50M for them, I’d say fairly often!

And, if you think Haaland wasn’t considered “the finished article,” as opposed to a “development player bought young and for under €30M,” then I’m not sure what your metrics are.
None of these players are the finished article though. Haaland was purchased when he was 21 years old
