Florian Wirtz

Nice essay. Can’t say I didn’t laugh audibly when mentioned that young talent that is in the 90th+ percentile in all creation and progressing stats is deemed not player for the club. We’ve got height requirements now ? When we’ve ran Kova, Bernardo and Rico in midfield for pretty much the whole season. Seen us be the worse club in the league for duels won. But now Wirtz can’t handle the prem ? Oh brother, don’t get me started and propping MGW. Because he runs more ? What is this obsession with English players that run around , it’s as if Wirtz is like Mbappe. He can go where he wants on the pitch. He’s not coachable ? Where was this with Grealish. He had no restrictions. He could pick up the ball from the GK and move all the way to the LHS of the pitch. He was known for holding on to the ball for long - hence his foul baiting. Why didn’t anyone say that his freedom was too much and we couldn’t replicate that here ? Do you see how stupid this sounds ? Just typing this out is ridiculous Honestly man, do me a favour. Wirtz isn’t just a name. He won the league and stopped Bayern at the ripe age of TWENTY, after coming off a horrible ACL injury. Did anyone of you actually watch him that season. He scored in the final game to clinch the title. If you want to talk about specifics we can. His abilities are 2nd to none in terms of chance creation. When you compare him to our players. When you realise all we have are small space operators and carries and very little pass first midfielders you realise how crucial is profile is. I’m not saying he’s the perfect KDB player because nobody is. Nobody had his long range chance creation. But Wirtz had one thing Foden and nobody else had, HIGH VOLUME CHANCE CREATION. Either way it’s done now. It’s really not that deep. He rejected us. Case closed. The reasons do not matter. The club have missed out on another 1st choice WC player like Rice and Jude before hand. Shit happens. It’s not the end of the world. We can still have a great window without him and win trophies.

That is absolute utter nonsense the tripe written in that Tweet.

Morgan Gibbs White was basically favoured over Wirtz because in the long term post-Pep he was seen as more of a shining light. LOL!

GARBAGE!!

We knew how much Wirtz cost and by all accounts were happy to bung over £100m for him and pay him upwards of £400k a week. We've known for months the costings and if he came out last week and said he wanted to be a Manchester City player, he would be holding up a blue shirt next week.

The guy rejected us, pure and simple.

I've got nothing against Wirtz, you win some, you lose some with the elite talents and he didn't drag us out all summer. Fair play to him.
I wish more people could understand this. It’s literally not that serious. The club did everything they could to persuade. They even spoke to him in JANUARY.

Another one bites the dust. Tough titts. Play on

The tweet is inaccurate largely in its identification of MGW as the alternative to Wirtz.

The truth is Pep has realized that more can be got out of Phillips and he is planning on coaching him over the summer as a wide 10 rather than the central midfield role where he's been unhappy.

For most part, im very proud of this forums response of us withdrawing the offer. Wirtz is good, but is he really 150 million good? I really don't think so and I feel we can spread the 150 million across the team better. A really good pair of fullbacks would be crucial for us to retake the title next season. Ait nouri and maybe dumfries?

WHO gonna defend in midfield ? Who is gonna get dropped ? Szobozlai?

No idea mate but they went for Caiciedo for over £100m? Maybe they feel it would be worth doing on this talent while they are at the top and we are needing major surgery?

Maybe he would go to the vermin though? Maybe thats another reason we walked?

I’ve suspected this since the news landed that we were pulling out.

We don’t tend to get involved when a player is playing us off against another Club - even more so when it’s another PL side.

I’d suspect if we got word he was seriously entertaining the dippers, we’d be out of that shit show like a shot.

The kid entertaining Bayern is one thing, but this would be exactly our response if we thought he wasn’t fully sold on us - and was up for listening to the pitch from that fetid shower.

Dippers getting excited on Twatter hopefully it doesn't happen.

Just can't see Liverpool forking out 300m on a deal like this after Dyke and Salah renewals plus losing TAA.
Losing TAA is a lot of creativity leaving, so Wirtz would make sense, plus TAA's wages are off the wage bill. Salah seems to be getting the same money he was on anyway.

Of the £126m fee that Leverkusen want, you'd think some would be in add ons and the payment would be spread out. Leverkusen are incentivized to give favourable terms to ensure Bayern don't get him, and they'd still get more than Bayern would pay, as it looks like they want him on the cheap. It is a lot of money though any way you slice it.

It's a good idea to take advantage of pull while you have it, and while you're champions of the PL you have it. This Summer will be an arms race for PL teams and next season's title race will be the wild west with several rising teams. Can teams afford not to go for the best they can get?

The long tweet ...

Feels like by going for MGW we'd be going for a surefire 7/10, instead of going for Wirtz who would cost way more and could be anything from a 5/10 to a 10/10.

The tweet would be worth more though if it wasn't just a random's opinion.
