Florian Wirtz

I would be absolutely shocked if we got him. This slow dance he’s doing with Bayern is giving me serious anxiety. I’m hopeful, but it’s that very hope that’s killing me. If he ends up signing that extension after all this waiting, it would just do me in

Bobb seems to have earned Pep’s admiration—and honestly, I’m a fan too. The boy is special. On the other hand, Pep keeps toying with McAtee. The fact that McAtee has been fit but hasn’t played much is quite telling—he might be on his way out in the summer.

McAtee has a good eye for goal, but I’m not sure how highly Pep rates him. What I do know is that Pep clearly rates Bobb more. I hope both players fight for their place and establish themselves, but they’ll need consistent game time to do that. Unfortunately, McAtee isn’t getting much of it right now, whereas Bobb will likely see more opportunities as soon as he’s fit.

I suspect we’ll bring in a goalkeeper, maybe a full-back depending on how the Cambiaso situation unfolds. I’m hoping we secure a KDB replacement as well. Beyond that, it’s a mystery to me, and it likely depends on who ends up leaving.
Agree with much of that.

Given the players we’ve bought this month, anything seems possible in the summer, especially with Viana coming in.

As you elude to though, we’ve got multiple positions to fill and so going “massive” on one player seems less likely, but I know nowt and am guessing,

One thing I’m absolutely sure of is that our squad size will be the largest it’s ever been under Pep. These injuries and recent defeats have given the higher-ups and Pep himself a serious case of PTSD. They were shaken to the core, and that’s exactly why we’re seeing this aggressive January window shopping spree. After everything that’s gone wrong this season, they’ve clearly recognized the need for reinforcements. It’s a full-throttle approach to fix things and ensure we have the depth to compete on all fronts. The level of urgency from the club right now speaks volumes.

Yeah, I wrote on the Stones thread that I think clubs might start buying players to have enough to send a couple on holiday for 6 weeks on rotation to limit burnout.

It’s interesting to see the under 21 players being bought that don’t need to be named in the PL squad yet. That opens the doors for more players.

This CWC in the summer will be brutal on our squad next season.

Means you gotta shift em when they do turn 21 though or nail your progression plan for the team, and some must be willing to not be on the CL squad etc. As well as the kids from B List that need to come off. Tricky balance.

Gonna be fun though.

Not the world’s greatest source ever, but I would take that!

Where do I sign?

I think, if the player is willing to come we get Wirtz just because we are the only club that need him and can afford him.

Wages wise it would probably mean he got KDB’s money and Kev moved on or stayed on less money combined with Gundo going.

I’ve always believed he had a shot at Wirtz. Who wouldn’t want to supply the bullets to Haaland.

He’s a fantastic player is Wirtz, we have been blessed with players such as David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne and we’re lucky that both their time overlapped each other during their careers with the club. Players of that calibre are hard to find and from what I’ve seen of Wirtz he has it in his locker to be on that level and it’s something we need with KDB not at the peak of his powers anymore.

I do think there could be something in this one for us.

There's just too much noise about it, generally, for that not to be the case.

He's world-class but you'll probably need 120m to get him out of Bayer. I'd rather spend 50-60m on a Baena

I think we forget that “The Pep Effect” is rapidly coming to an end and any superstars on long contracts will spend the vast majority of their City careers under his successor.

Feel like we might be past the “I’d love to work under Pep” phase of attracting talent.

Wirtz will not move . Everyone in Germany knows that.
Alan Smith “ the one team I will never play for is Man United”

Money talks and we are one of the very few clubs that can shout at over £100 million.

The odds are against it but to not try or to say it’s impossible would be crazy for City. If we can get Haaland….
