Florian Wirtz

You have quite literally proven my point. We thought we had them all sorted after doing ground work earlier in the summer then were left looking like mugs at the end when the player opted to sign elsewhere or remain at their club.

The Rice one even dispels the myth that we only bid once we have the player sewn up. We publicly bid for a player only to watch him immediately sign for Arsenal right after.

What’s to say Wirtz hasn’t been giving us the nod whilst his dad has agreed to a move to Bayern? Much like Bellingham.

To suggest we've been left looking like mugs is ridiculous. 4 league titles in a row with a treble tucked in there suggests we've done things right. We need a strong summer, but at no point in the previous 4 years did any of our failed signings cross my mind. Were you longing for Kane or Sanchez or Messi when Gundo lifted the CL in Istanbul? I would hazard a guess that not a single City fan gave them a moments thought.

I was quoting a person who was rubbishing the prospect of us being unaware that a player could agree something else without our knowledge and provided several examples of it happening previously.

These are the players that could give you more than 1 cl in 15 years or something similar that Madrid has done. Yeah ,City has been a really really good team ,but i think some of those big superstar names should be signed in near future ,cause we are loosing some of our really good players duo to leaving or just regressing duo to age. Full backs and midfield should be priority nr 1 ,but i also feel that a great winger is missing from this team ,to take more scoring pressure off Haaland. Wirtz is one of those really good players and i really hope city could tie him down.

With regards to Rice, i`m sure @tolmie's hairdoo can confirm that Sullivan told us £90m would get the deal done as Arsenal had said they wouldnt bid again and he didnt want to sell to them anyway and then they did bid and we decided against it? Lets just wait and see what happens, one year where we havent competed in the premier league or champions league to our usual level and now apparently everything is shit, players are shit, board dont care, possible new signings are shit?

But if he just doesnt want to come what can the club do? It`s already been said that we would do the fee Leverkusen want and wages arent a problem if he says yes but the player has a say as well you know?

We all do but if we can't we can't, we move on and we'll be fine.

Well when the reason for us not competing and dropping off so drastically is when the board spend around £130million on Kalvin Phillips, Matteo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes in an attempt to offer cover for Rodri if he is injured, only for Pep to quite literally rule Phillips and Nunes not good enough almost immediately and never use them in midfield, suggests otherwise.

The imminent signing of Gibbs-White carries on the worrying trend of signing shite players for huge transfer fees.

Right, so you think the people that built multiple title winning record breaking teams have now forgotton how or can't be arsed doing it again based on one season when the teams ran out of steam. Okay, lets see shall we.

If we don't get Wirtz , trust Viana, he knows what he's doing. He will have a lot of alternatives. I also don't think we need world class players, just good players that fit the system this season weve had the players to fit the system but they are too old. Pep just needs players that can fit his system

That's why Viana is here goes through all the stats and what the team needs and then signs those players.

Sporting lacked goals saw Gyokeres stats signed him.

Sporting started losing control of the midfield signed Hjulmand due to his stats fitting the team.

The attempted signings of Dani Alves, Alexis Sanchez, Jorginho, Lionel Messi, Harry Kane and Declan Rice suggest City are quite often sat like sad fuckers whilst a player signs for another team or ends up agreeing to stay at their current club at the last minute.
Liverpool with caceido, lavia, zubimendi and Bellingham.
Still won the league
That’s football

The multiple title winning record players are the same from like 5 years ago + Haaland. So yes it seems like they forgot. They buy players and Pep either refuses to use them or doesn’t use them at all even when they play good ( Khusanov) also O’Reilly until he had NO CHOICE.

I can’t think of many if any top German talents in the last 30 or 40 years who haven’t been lured to Bayern IF they have stayed in Germany during the peak of their careers. Wirtz is destined to join Bayern and I fear City are being used by the agent to leverage the package his client receives and by Leverkusen to leverage the fee. I’m honestly not sure the move to Bayern makes the best sense for the player - can you have two conductors in an orchestra ? But Bayern have a long history of bullying the rest of the league and hoarding all the best talent in Germany. I suspect without City’s interest Bayern would have tried to lowball Leverkusen. Not sure who City move on to because I really haven’t been impressed with Simons but, I really have little confidence in us landing Wirtz - no matter how much we are prepared to throw at the deal. Happy to be wrong.
There is always another player. The club will try and probably fail in many negotiations but they have still got a lot right. Hence the dominance and the struggle to replace so many recent legends of the club.

The creative role we need to fill may not be filled with 1 player but two different types of players.

Komps
Sergio
Dave
Kdb
Yaya

The list is endless. Shows we have got far more right than wrong imo. Still find a way to not sign Wirtz tho -:)

Can’t get them all right unfortunately. Bad recruitment and you could potentially be in the wilderness for years…rags is a perfect example of this.

Just because they’ve done it before, doesn’t mean they’ll continue to do so. Our signings since 2021 bar Haaland are what have contributed to our position now. It was the signings from 2015-2021 that won us the treble.

yeah, of course i understand it and i said i really hope we can sign him.Hope for the best ,but hopefully teamhas lined up another really good midfielder if he doesn´t want to come here.

Again, I was quoting a poster who said he was laughing at people who don’t think the club know exactly what Wirtz wants, and wouldn’t be after him if he didn’t want to come… Then provided several examples of the club thinking they had a player sewn up only for him to sign elsewhere or stay at their original club.

Viana hasnt even had a summer yet and is shit apparently mate so he has no chance it seems

Nonsense.Yes in hindsight we should have made a couple of changes last summer. Before that there wern't players better than we had, which is why that team won a treble. I don't really care what you think about the minutes the January signings have had the job was to finish top 5 ,we've done that by finding a winning formula. The new players will be part of the future. A future I can't wait for.
You obviously don't trust Pep or the club that have always delivered to build another winning team well that's tough shit come back and see where we are in 12 months. The lack of faith in the club by some is pretty pathetic.

Stop worrying. What's the point? This summer is going to be a blast and we're going to make a statement.

If its Wirtz or MGW we have to trust the process. We've had an absolute shite / average season yet could find ourselves 2nd with an FA Cup, we're really not that far behind :-)

Hugo Viana will wanna start well and Txiki will want to go out on a high and I'm all in for it :-)

"We thought" = being the fans

You've no idea what the club thought

Rice: City bid what they thought he was worth then that was it, maybe it was also pushing the price up
