Florian Wirtz

He’s not the only fucking one. Buying make-weights like MGW at allegedly £100,000,000 in place of the best midfielder in German football if not the best midfielder in world football for £150,000,000.
If either Liverpool or Bayern get him this will be our first major loss of next season.
Unless of course Wirtz doesn’t want to come? What would be the point in pursuing him further if that’s the case?

Liverpool aren’t in the question. He’s going to Bayern.

The lad looks a good player, yes if we had got him brilliant but at the prices involved fee and wages it would have been a huge risk, let’s move on and hopefully get a few hungry players wanting to win stuff with energy and desire..

If we could have got a number of years out of him, as we did with KDB, then he might even have learned to love it here, and been worth the huge fee and wages .... but Bayern are always a massive pull to any young German player, and they usually seem to bag most of the young talent there.

There’s not really much you can do if we’ve done everything possible to get him but he chooses to go to Bayern - where he was always favourite to go.

I’m absolutely shattered. I really believed, right up until the final moment, that it was happening…that he was going to wear our shirt, play in our stadium, become one of us. I’ve never wanted a player this badly. That’s why I’ve been in this thread for months, day in and day out, pushing, hoping, convincing myself and others that we were going to pull it off.

I don’t even know what to say right now. I’m genuinely sorry if I gave anyone false hope or built up your expectations. I wasn’t trying to mislead… I just had complete faith in our board to get this over the line. And to see it all collapse like this… it’s heartbreaking.

Let’s stick together now. We’re still fans of the same club. We still want what’s best for it. And even though this one slipped away, we have to look forward, regroup, and find the next best alternative. But yeah…this one hurts. Deeply.
Is everything ok at home? Fucking hell

There is zero credible evidence to support this view
As stated a week back and basically confirmed today - he's off to Bayern. Very very few German players that Bayern want, Bayern don't get.

Kid yourself all you want but we were always huge outsiders for him.

The lad from AC Milan, Dani Olmo and Morgan Gibbs-White are decent players - but we aren't winning any league titles or European Cups with them I'm afraid. For a team that used to get so much right in the transfer market we really have gone down the crapper of late.

The old "transfer doesn't represent value" was a United line when they started their slide. No-one's buying it - Wirtz said No, end of.

He rejected us. It isn’t about money. It’s classic football club PR when someone doesn’t choose to join you.

Are we really letting arguably our greatest legend leave on a free transfer without having a replacement lined up?

City reckon he will cost them £300 million overall and are concerned about the value v money.

I'm gutted too, but thats a lot of money.

Maybe its the players demands?

However we could just be holding our cards closer to our chest as Bayern are now the only team that are bidding. Maybe they'll bid a much smaller personal package and the player will request another meeting with City.

Hopefully he's not signed anything yet and this gets to play out.

confirmed by gaughan. pathetic. if we had money trouble maybe we shouldnt have spend hundreds of millions on mediocrity in the last few season.
I’m actually shocked the reason is money. As if it should be an issue when replacing our greatest ever player… They told him to kick rocks without knowing how much Wirtz was ?? Is that even legal. Surely this is negligence of the highest level.

42 on Philips 55 on Nunes 50 odd on Nico G. Almost 150m on players the manger DOES NOT RATE. Because Bruno G for 100 was simply “too expensive” and now we have to get Reinjders for 60-70 because the ones we got now aren’t good enough.

This club man. I wonder how they’ll spin this up. “Foden x MGW are seen as enough for the 10 position with Echeverri x Marmoush seen as able to play there”
