Florian Wirtz

Manchester City and Pep never state that we are in the market for any player during the season.
So let the media talk and fool anybody willing to listen that we have or haven't,

The golden rule is that, until the new player is standing in the Colin Bell stand, holding his new shirt and number then
is official,

I’m absolutely shattered. I really believed, right up until the final moment, that it was happening…that he was going to wear our shirt, play in our stadium, become one of us. I’ve never wanted a player this badly. That’s why I’ve been in this thread for months, day in and day out, pushing, hoping, convincing myself and others that we were going to pull it off.

I don’t even know what to say right now. I’m genuinely sorry if I gave anyone false hope or built up your expectations. I wasn’t trying to mislead… I just had complete faith in our board to get this over the line. And to see it all collapse like this… it’s heartbreaking.

Let’s stick together now. We’re still fans of the same club. We still want what’s best for it. And even though this one slipped away, we have to look forward, regroup, and find the next best alternative. But yeah…this one hurts. Deeply.

I think we should call the hospital.

Can't help if the lad wants to sign for SS Munich. Is what it is.

If Foden sorts his shit out he saves us £150m

If Foden was performing like he did last season, we'd still need to sign a top player.

This is reminiscent of the "we don't need to replace Alvarez" and "we don't need to sign a right back" comments from last summer.

We need to learn from those mistakes. Especially if we want enough tourists to fill the new seats.

Sadly, I think you’ve hit on a very salient point that is overlooked by many.

The way City play is stifling for most world class players. I give you Haaland as a prime example and also the way Grealish and Foden, two great English hopes, have seemingly died on the vine at City.

Players want to play exciting football for exciting teams. They want to express themselves, not be strapped into a “round peg, round hole” framework where their natural talents are stifled.

Pep has absolutely revolutionized football with some of his tactics, especially the sweeper keeper and the inverted fullbacks, which always seeks to overload the opposition and create an open man.

HOWEVER, it has become stale, pedestrian, boring, and, quite frankly, easy to overcome by even the most industrial of teams. Pep has turned potential world class players into laborers, whose primary function is to “recycle, recycle, recycle” until we bore the opposition into submission.
Teams simply play a 6-4/4-5-1/5-4-1 against us and dare us to break them down by finding the space in a collapsed formation camped on the edge of its own penalty area.

Even against that kind of rearguard action, we have become boring, merely shuttling the ball from side to side, rather than sending it intently danger areas looking for a touch, a second ball, or a deflection…something to create anxiety at the back!

Instead, we simply allow defenders to shuffle 5 yards right or 5 yards left to blunt what passes for an attack.
Compounding this, we have two strikers who love nothing more than chasing the ball in behind, which never comes, and they get frustrated.

We have world class midfielders who are taught to stifle the instincts and abilities that created their reputations and, instead, make safe 5 yards passes.

All 3 goals were brilliant, but at 3:45 one of the best team goals of the last decade is on display.

Where did THIS City go???

Absolute class and some of the best football anyone has ever seen coming from the Boys in Blue under Pep!

The change in the form of Grealish and Foden has nothing to do with Pep. Foden developed under Pep

We don't have world class midfielders, or at least Rodri is injured, Foden is out of form, and KDB's career is old.

What's happened to you?

You spoiled looking for galacticos?

City don't get galacticos! We always get the 3rd or 4th choice.
And then break records with them…???

Treble, 4 in a row, 6 out of 7, Champions League…

Need I remind you most people thought Yaya was a washed up sloth, had never heard of David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany or Ballon D’Or winner Rodri until they donned the Sky Blue, and would have been booked in for long term treatment at a Mental Health Institution had they suggested that these players would be dominant in British and European football for the next decade or so!

I remember when a good season was measured by being above certain clubs and a bad season was relegation and three “new” retread journeymen managers per season!

Luxury is so seductive!

The point is, you don’t decide against renewing his contract for another year unless you’re confident there’s a replacement already lined up. If the reports are accurate, Wirtz was viewed by everyone at City as that replacement. We usually handle our transfers well in advance so how did no one at City know he only wants to join Bayern?
How do you know any of what you just said is true?

Are we really letting arguably our greatest legend leave on a free transfer without having a replacement lined up?
He's the best city player I've seen, but he's finished. We may have missed out on Wirtz, but that doesn't mean the time isn't right to release Kev.

I think it's pretty evident he's walked away from us, not the other way around.
You could be right, i guess we wont ever know, but I have genuine concerns that we won't pay the money required to sign the ready made stars the team needs.

The players we have been linked with are frighteningly mediocre.

Shit end to a shit season… shit beginning to what I imagine will be a shit summer.

Morgan Gibbs White instead of Florian Wirtz is beyond belief. Fuck me.

Viana kicking off with a stinker.

What’s happened to our board?
Think it's the reality of where we are rather than ambition. A lot of significant people have been leaving the last few years and Guardiola floating the idea of stepping down means we have less pull.

Still more than other clubs across this league certainly. But feels like overseas clubs getting a grip on big transfers again.

And then break records with them…???

We had heard of Kun before!

But this may be a boon in disguise for our academy talent like Divin Mukasa.. etc

By all accounts they're way better than the Cole Palmer/ James McAtee/ Liam Delap/ Romeo Lavia class and we may want to give them a shot here..

So some no nowt said online we are signing Wirtz.
Another no nowt said he's going Liverpool.
Another no nowt is said we are pulling out.

If you take away the no-nowts we are back at square one

Oh great. The lack of ambition (never thought I'd say that) is already biting.

If they're going to charge so much for tickets and rake so much revenue in, then it is reasonable to expect some investment in top talent.

I say that as someone who has seen it all in 44 years plus.

Oscar Bobb, Bobb, Bobb.
In all seriousness, social media is a minefield. Just learn to wait until signings are confirmed on the OS.
