Florian Wirtz

People seriously aren't considering how expensive this deal is. We'd only be able go sign 1 or 2 others. If previous windows had gone better, maybe, but they haven't, so we cant.

If the club turned around said we're only signing Wirtz and 1 other player this summer, we'd all say 'no chance of the title next season'.
Txiki and the boards mismanagement of transfers since the treble win being put front and centre for everyone to see.

Dippers are looking at us needing a rebuild, Chelsea in dire straits, Arsenal always the bridesmaid and Newcastle still building and thinking they possibly wrap up another league or 2 if we get Wirtz and a striker.

Strong disagree, would rather than a world class Wirtz and one other than a collection of 4 or 5 average to good players.
Livramento and Kirkez would cost less than €150m and would probably take less than £300k a week combined.

That's 2 very good players for less, those are the financial decisions the club are weighing up.

I'm not saying it'll be those 2 we get but we have to be realistic.

Another transfer fuck up. Letting a top target go to a rival
We're not "letting" someone go elsewhere if fundamentally they don't want to join us.

Whilst I can't even begin to imagine why someone would rather play for Liverpool than City, the players (and their agents) will have different agendas to you & I.

A few days later

Wirtz informed Liverpool that he decided to go to Real Madrid

I think we got wind that he wanted Liverpool, which is why we briefed the press with the numbers Wirtz was asking for.

The concerning thing is...why would he have a preference to Liverpool?

We (obviously, not whinging) don't have the same pull as we have done in recent years and why is that? It can't be because they've just won the league and we haven't because one off season in the last 7/8 years is fine.

It must boil down to style of play. In my opinion anyway. An attacking player like Wirtz wants space and freedom to be able to play. Liverpool allow that and they play fast, attacking football. We, on the other hand, play slow, side-to-side football. Which has worked a treat for years and seen massive success, but seems to be a bit archaic (boring) now.

If I was Wirtz, and I had the choice between the two, I know which I'd favour if it came purely down to style.

What annoys me is that teams seem to come onto Liverpool making it an expansive game. But teams against us just sit back. It can't be just down to them, they must do something different which makes teams more open. We don't.

You think we were priced out but Liverpool weren’t? Zero chance. City haven’t been able to convince him to join us and that’s it.
Liverpool have less needs and less wasted transfer money in recent seasons. They only signed Chiesa last season. They have money to throw away.
