Is it a coup though? As I say I’ve not seen enough of him but usually, like with Haaland, he is heard of in every news outlet and on forums, highlights and the like - just everywhere due to the reputation created by himself. I’ve not really heard Wirtz’s name in the same bracket, infact if it wasn’t for this forum I dare say I’d rarely heard of him.

Not too sure it’s a coup in the same sense as how we landed Haaland, who every top club wanted to sign and was thee name in world football. Not sure that applies to Wirtz

To me it seems the scousers have had their pants pulled down.

Did the stance change because he is moving to Liverpool?
The guy who won the league for Leverkusen the first time after being called VIZEKUSEN for years isn’t world class while winning 2 time Bundesliga player of the league in a row?
Musiala isn’t world class in your eyes either then if Wirtz isn’t.

I really dont mind them signing him, it'll be interesting to see how he does. The difficulty he'll have is he's going to them while they're champions, so unless they do that again, or win the CL, then anyone can argue that he'll have made them worse. In some ways there's not a lot of upside to his signing, but I expect in the long-term he's kind of replacing Salah. Maybe not directly, but in terms of focus and output, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's some difficulty finding the best way to fit him in this season.

The fee is exorbitant but he’s one of the most coveted in players in Europe and I’m sure everyone would acknowledge he’s a very good player.

However, if we don’t have any long-term injuries to key players and manage to sign a right back, I’m confident we will win the Prem next season. Quite comfortably, in fact.

It's great for the league to see these levels of players every week, its just a shame he didn't end up at City

Has a lot to prove given the price tag, and no doubt he'll get kicked about a fair bit in the opening few weeks, so it'll be interesting to see how he responds

We needed an overhaul, so I'd much rather see us spend that money addressing a few areas rather than just the one; I still think we'll bring one or two more bits of quality in as well

Neymar was a win for Barca.
Mbappe was mostly a win for PSG but sort of not?
Joao Feix to Atletico was... mixed.
Enzo to Chelsea has been... mixed to positive?
Griezmann to Barca was... mixed.
Coutinho to Barca was... mixed.
Rice to Arsenal has been mostly good with some caveats.
Grealish to City was mixed-to-good depending on who you listen to.
Caicedo to Brighton has been alright?

Lots of pressure on Wirtz.

Players are overhyped all the time and ‘world class’ is just used far too often, in my opinion.
At 21, he certainly has the potential to be world class, just as he has the potential to not be. He is, currently, a very, very good footballer, but let’s see where he is in 3/4 years time, before we give him that label.
By the way, him playing in the Bundesliga or him signing for Liverpool has absolutely no bearing on my opinion.

At least he will have the benefit of the never ending support ( no critical analysis allowed ) from our dipper loving media.

Dipper mania will reach previously unchartered heights on SKY and the BBC.
 
Apparently only initial fees are what constitutes british transfer records. This came into effect upon the immediate signing of wirtz.
