Football facts that you didn’t know

i know.
can you believe!
all those people walking around with phones in their pockets,
and nobody took a photo of an unknown fella.

thankfully,
that's why we have the phrase "legend has it..."

there's no concrete proof he even came to england,
other than, if it can be called proof,
his (iirc) sister-in-law said he did so in her autobigraphy,
in order to swerve austrian conscription.

i'd be interested to know what exactly you could come up with as a single possible example of concrete proof that someone visited somewhere over 100 years ago?
I heard he came to Manchester but when he got off the train the QSG met him on the platform and told him to do one.
A bloke called Frankie told me.

Honest.

Bin Laden was a Gooner

Harold Shipman was a Notts County fan

Any more "celebrity" fans they don't celebrate too loudly...?
Peter Sutcliffe, also known as the Yorkshire Ripper, was a Leeds United supporter. Leeds United fans chanted slogans at matches, such as "There's only one Yorkshire Ripper" and the notorious "12-nil" taunt directed at the police.

I know the twat was from Bradford, so some peculiar logic to supporting the dirties.

However I seem to recall as a kid Sunderland singing there's only one ripper. Might have been a tie in to the Wearside Jack tape.

sadly, very sadly in fact,
in those days we all sang some chants that it's easy to look back on now and regret enormously.
you'd like to think the leeds fans think back similarly.

Howard Kendall played in the same schools' football team, as a well known "pop star", who was the vocalist of an excellent pop group.
He also has had a successful solo career.
Who is the pop star ?
That is amazing! I would never have got that and its well worth googling for those still unaware

It leads on to another strange but true

In 1964 the semi finalists for the FA cup were West Ham, Man United, Preston and Swansea

United had won it the year before and as it happened the two strongest were drawn together, them and West Ham featuring Hurst Peters and Moore - West Ham progressing

That led to Howard Kendall for Preston being the youngest to play in the Cup Final, but if United had progressed to the final, then George Best would have shared the record, as he and Kendall had the same birthdate. Best hadn't played in the 63 final and broke through into the first team that season

My former partner at Royal Mail told me that when his uncle was in his teens, Sutcliffe and he were best mates.

The smallest town to have a top flight English football team is Glossop, think that falls into football facts I didnt know until young Gaz told me yesterday, although I obviously know it now, I think
