Football facts that you didn’t know

Now I do not know if this is true or is distance confusing me, Stan Horne in his first three games for City were played in England, Wales and Scotland. All friendlies in preseason in 64 or 65.

Since the start of 2016/17, City have had the most penalties in the Premier League. Surprised at that. It's not even close either,

City 74
United 66
Liverpool 60
Chelsea 59
Palace 55
Brighton 53
Arsenal 51
Leicester 49
West Ham 44
Tottenham 42

Less surprising is we have the second lowest conversion rate in that list, ahead of only Leicester

City 74.32%
United 75.76%
Liverpool 86.67%
Chelsea 88.14%
Palace 78.18%
Brighton 77.36%
Arsenal 84.31%
Leicester 73.47%
West Ham 77.27%
Tottenham 83.33%

Statmuse/ Opta
We play alot around the box, with oppositions camped inside theirs, so it's not so surprising we rank high in penalties awarded.

What is truly surprising is how high United are considering how shite they've been.

Weird little facts that i did not know :

1) 1992 European Championship winners Denmark didn’t even qualify for the tournament.
They were called up after Yugoslavia were disqualified

2) Wrexham were founded in 1864 - 16yrs before us

3) Arsenal & Port Vale are the only league clubs that are not named after their location

4) Forest have won the European cup more times than the english league title

5) Barcelona have never beaten Dundee United
Played 2. Lost 2

6) Dave Whelan broke his leg in the 1960 FA Cup Final

Anyone got anymore?

3 you could argue should be only port vale.

Yes, I know that, but it’s a very long time since they left Woolwich and dropped that from their name.

It’s like saying that we should still be called Ardwick.

Yeah but they’ve still retained the Arsenal bit of it, which is still named after their original location. When I heard that fact before, it’s was just in reference to just Port Vale because that wasn’t located near the reference of its name.

It’s not like saying that, as then a fair few more would be included too and doesn’t recognise the difference between how Arsenal and Port Vale got their names in the first place.

I will say that I’m happy to agree with you though as my reason for knowing that is purely from a pub quiz that asked that exact question, but was “which is the only club not named after its location” and we put Arsenal! The reasoning was given by the quiz master and I begrudgingly agreed :)

I'm genuinely amazed at those figures in the top table and not amazed at all at the bottom table.
Pep joined in 2016-17, since then we’ve had the most possession in the league (if not Europe) and play in and around the opposition box most of the game, so are always going to accumulativelg get more penalties over time.
