Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

Setting aside the rehash hatchet job for a minute and thinking about this European Super League............ seems we are so hated in European Football that we and PSG would be invited to join? Then there is the article on the effects of FFP where it has resulted in leagues being dominated by on or two teams - that means they are all the biggest fishes in their ponds and are serial winners who can hoover up most of the dosh and accolades at home and their reach in terms of fans spreads beyond their home town to glory hunters and the like. The essential word is League.......... in a league there will be winners and losers, a top and a bottom ( though it seems the jeopardy of finishing bottom would be removed ) but clearly these vast new riches and rewards would be distributed in a way that is weighted towards those finishing higher up the new league.

They need to be careful what they wish for - will their fans and the money still be attracted to a Bayern that become serial losers in a new league?

I think the chances are that none of these clubs ever actually had the intention of creating a 'super league' the risks are far too high, it made excellent leverage for divvying up the CL money less equitably though.

We should, but wouldnt be surprised if some of our sponsors did too as it seems to me they are being accused of taking money and passing it on to us but not showing it in their audited accounts. Or maybe I'm mistaken as I'm no accountant. And from what I see UEFA are being accused of helping us to cover up any wrong doing that broke their own rules, but as they were uefa rules surely thats up to them.
Exactly. If they are a discrete 'club' and not subject to the same business rules as everyone else, then what they do is entirely up to them.
If not, then they have been operating a thoroughly nefarious operation for years - which is morally repugnant, and perhaps something that we threatened to expose/bring down if they didn't play fair (properly this time).
The phrase, 'Cake and eat it,' springs to mind, but I wouldn't expect any less from some quarters.

It's more than 4 years since all this nonsense got us all in a lather and what these (unverified) leaks show is that no-one wishes to reopen this subject. In 2014 City's owners were convinced they had a strong case and were prepared to go to court. In the end they agreed a settlement with UEFA, in my opinion because their experience outside football had led them to believe that confrontation and conflict are not the best ways of growing a business if they can be avoided, especially over issues that have ceased to be problematical. I think UEFA were desperate for a settlement because they were on very dodgy legal ground (quicksand?!) if it went to court, and the consequences of any court case could be disastrous whatever the verdict (and UEFA's history with the courts is not a happy one). They needed to save face, and now there is no reason at all why they should re-open pandora's box. UEFA was pushed into FFP by a group of clubs whose fingerprints are all over it. The question of conflict of interest throws terminal doubt over the impartial and objective nature of the rules. As Martin Samuel points out in his latest article, the ludicrously uncompetitive nature of the German, Italian, Greek etc etc etc leagues shows that it was a blunt instrument for keeping football competitive and that its true intention was the opposite. And Khaldoon's assertion that in ten years City would have shown that their business model was more successful than UEFA's has been demonstrated in less than 5! UEFA would be mad to reopen an issue of which the least damaging result would be to make them look very stupid, especially as City have gone out of their way to smooth UEFA's feathers. A load of disgruntled and ill intentioned Germans shouldn't be allowed to ruffle them again.

I think its about time our owners got us lawyered up - issue a few letters ( publicly ) to a few organisations insisting they prove or retract or face the consequences.
can not see our owners dropping their stance on dignity over what is an attack on the leadership of UEFA but i can see UEFA pulling the German FA up on what seems to be rising racism in Germany

If it is 4 years since all of this, why is it coming out now again? Why am i reading that premier league clubs now want city investigated?
It dragging the club through the mud and we are getting truly dirty.

I don't like it one bit
