Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

One thing that has struck me in all this is how everything that Der Spiegel has published is being taken as gospel. At no point has anyone in the media questioned the validity of the claims (which let's not forget were illegally obtained) or asked who has leaked them, or why. You know, actual journalism rather than just rehashing another publication's stories.

We've seemingly been tried and convicted in their eyes, before we've even had the chance to formulate our official response. So much for innocent until proven guilty, eh.
This hits the nail on the head. I have no problem with this story being covered by the UK media but the lack of context and balance is staggering. The BBC and UK tabloids have been the worst. Just re-hashing online content. We have seen repeated references to Platini introducing FFP which don't mention he was later banned from football for corruption. Somehow UEFA have become the good guys in the English media. The Matthew Syed article in the Times was just unbelievable. He likens City fans to "vicious rats" on a sinking ship. This is not journalism.

"..When City decides it wants a player no matter how high the price, even an automobile manufacturer with sales of 200 billion euros eventually buckles. Ultimately, Wolfsburg received a transfer fee of 75 million...."

First time seeing 75m quoted for Debruyne. Are they pulling these figures from thin air ? I think by the fourth part Spiegel has lost all credibility if ever they had one.

Only thing I can think of is that's the total fee in Euros is all bonuses are hit

The fourth part only confirms that some kid is throwing toys out of the pram because his team can't buy all the players anymore.

What always puzzled me, back in 2014, was Khaldoon's remarks about "our friends in UEFA". "Friends" still strikes me as rather excessive but it appears that certain elements at UEFA were more sympathetic to our club's aims than it appeared at the time.

Pretty hypocritical of him, he even looks like a rat(or a Mr Burns from The Simpsons - Splinter from The Turtles crossbreed) and in the same article acts "viscously ratlike" towards a whole fan base out of entitlement(anyone who does support FFP is a fan of an entitled elite club or simply doesn't get it). Like many who have covered this in the UK, he also lacks journalistic integrity for taking everything Der Spiegel said at face value.

So now all 4 instalments are out, is there expected to be some form of club statement on the matter, or do you reckon they'll just work in the background on it?
