There was a fair amount of silliness that went on in the first ever seasons of the FA Cup, like Queens Park (not QPR) getting byes all the way to the semi-final while everyone else had to play normal ties, and my home town (Hitchin) played out the first ever draw, whereupon the FA seems to have gone "ah, we didn't consider this...uh...you can both go through".

It could well be someone like Wanderers or Royal Engineers.

Haha, thanks. I'm not sure why you had high expectations though. I haven't gotten a question in this thread right yet ;) There are people here with much better knowledge of football. I just know some of the stories from the early days of the game.
