When was the first time player's shirt numbers were used?

Thursday's answer: Five times: Manchester City (1926), Leicester City (1969), Brighton & Hove Albion (1983), Middlesbrough (1997) & Portsmouth (2010).
Chelsea would also have been relegated in 1915 but the First Division was expanded from 20 to 22 teams for the 1919-20 season.

Yes, that was the first FA Cup Final when shirt numbers were worn.

But it wasn't the first football match when they were used.

That came on 25th August 1928 when Sheffield Wednesday beat Arsenal 3-2.

Wednesday wore numbers 1 to 11 while Arsenal wore numbers 12 to 22.
