Footballs' Hardmen

Morrison = over-rated
Really?

I remember in one of the early PPV games, against Colchester, I think Morrison and one of the Colchester forwards, whose name escapes me, though I think he was Brazilian, went up together for a high ball and clashed heads.

The Colchester player was laid out flat, had to be revived and was carried off on a stretcher.

Jock Morrison got up, shook his head a couple of times and carried on.

He was as hard as they came.

Edit: just seen your subsequent posts and username.

Robin Friday.

A fantastic player who once kicked Mark Lawrensen in the head, got sent off, and then took a shit in his wash bag.

Utter class.
Robin friday was a cult hero in his day,in the lower divisions.
Never saw him play, but pics of him suggest he took no prisoners.
He looked wild, amd no defender could of enjoyed playing against him.

I worked with a lad who was an apprentice (EDS) at Bolton in the early 70s... He said he'd never seen a harder bloke than Same Allardyce. Apparently, even the senior pros were scared of taking on Sam and Peter Reid... Neither took any prisoners.

From the many stories I've heard over the years, I would suspect that Mick Harford and Duncan Ferguson are very rarely more than one step away from being thrown in jail.
Agreed re Peter reid.saw him for City at Highfield rd,the ball broke loose in centre mid..Reid was closest to it and went for it..at the same time two Coventry players both jumped in for the ball either side of Reid who crunched into the tackle, emerged with the ball, leaving both oppenents lying flat out on the deck.probably the best challenge ive ever seen live.

I also remember at old trafford, under Reid as manager,Keane and McMahon went fir a 50/50...in the old liverpool days McMahon would have been game ..but at the last minute pulled out...much to Reids great annoyance standing on the touchline right in line with play..,i watched him scream and shout at SM and smash a clenched fist into the palm of his other hand....not happy at all.

Reid also once took a dreadful challenge from Vinny Jones of sheff utd at Maine rd ..the match where Jones got sent off after only 4 mins..it was the sort of challenge that could cripple someone...It hurt Reid, but he simply got up and got on with the game..Great player and wish he,d joined us a lot earlier, despite his injury record over the years.

Giles was a nasty bastard, who used to rake his studs down the back of opponents' ankles.

Just one of many cowards in Revie's dirty Leeds team.
Utter rubbish, Giles was a top class player who could and needed to be able to look after himself. Unlike most of the other so called hard man, Giles could actually play.
