GP’s are targeting excessive alcohol intake in men, as it’s the biggest cause/co-cause of health issues in older men that can easily be prevented or reduced…it’s not you being personally targeted, it’s just health guidance they are following. Afaik.

The many decades simplistic rule of thumb of 21 units per week for men and 14 (iirc) for women, is … just that.. a rule of thumb (doesn’t take into account size, age, genetics), that is something everyone can grasp as a ‘healthy limit’.

Whether people do… is clearly not the case .. <holds hand up>… so gp’s ask the question and hope to change the habits of their patients…
Fair enough but I know amongst my golfing and football pals who are aged between mid 50’s and mid 70’s that none of them drink within the current limits (including myself) so when we go to the Doc’s we all shamelessly lie about our intake.

My Dad drank every night for as long as I can remember, pub in his younger days but at home mostly up until he passed away. He drank about 5 bottles of wine a week and went through a bottle of whisky and a bottle of gin every fortnight. He was 89 when he died!

I've been drinking more than I should, probably main reason I've recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I need to cut down.

Foreign doctors working in the NHS are supposed to be able to speak English. Judge the following incident.
The GP who looks after my back and hip problems is Austrian. She spoke to Mrs KS on the phone the other day:
Doc:”How much does your husband wee?”
Mrs KS: “What???”
Doc: “I need to know how much your husband wees.”
Mrs KS: “ Do you want that in pints, litres, or visits?”
Doc: “ Eh???”
Mrs KS asked : “Tell me again what you need to know.”
Doc: “I need to know your husbands weet.”
Mrs KS “ Do you mean how much he weighs?”
Doc: “Yes, what’s his weet?”
Mrs KS “I’ve no idea.”
Exeunt omnes.
