Formation away from home?

We didn't lose because of 442, we dominated, and lost because of poor defending on 2 corners and 1 phase of open play when we had all men back behind the ball.

Only this. We did the job going forward. Any decent team that goes to Cardiff and scores 2 should win. Shocking defending cost us, not formations. Cardiff are the sort of side that will battle well, score a goal and maybe hold out for a well fought 1-0 win. We conceded 3 against them.

We dominated merely because Cardiff defended deep and were quite happy for us to pas the fucking thing sideways to a team mate 5 yards apart - dontmatter how long you have it if you play like this

---------------Hart----------------------
Zab - Komps - Nastasic -Clichy
-------Rodwell------Fernadinho-----
---Miner------Silva------Aguero---
-------------Negredo-------------------

Doesn't matter what formation you put out away or at home - until our goalie stops being a liability on corners, and the defence does the basics at corners, we're always going to be prone to conceding a goal, and, as most away games are tight, likely to drop points. Shame for Hart - made some good saves but looks like an amateur flapper far too often and hasn't been reliable for a season.
Pellegrini dropped a clanger taking off Navas imho too - he should 'come into his home' as the opposition tire, but he was off after 55 minutes when he definitely wasn't playing worse than others, and at least has a bit of pace about him - leaving us to pursue the same failed tactics from last season once he'd gone.
All very disappointing but hopefully lessons learned for Pellegrini. Goalie, left back and commanding centre half needed

Be solid dont loos and play to our strengths

Everything we did not do today

Milner should have started today no question

Teams we should beat on the road are going to be a little more expansive at home and so yer need the folk who can keep going for ninety in the heart of the midfield AND do the job. Milner and a fit Rodwell would do that.

You want him to go home for the 2nd half, lol!

The saying is "come into his own", I'm doing the kind thing here, if you had a smudge on your I'd let you know also, that's happened to me!

Not sure there was much wrong with the formation myself, although why we saw Fernandino going forward and Yaya holding, god himself doesn't know.

And they hardly played us off the park either. Two away goals and better defending and we would have picked up the points.

But I do criticise us for our lack of intensity. Last 5 minutes, when the penny had dropped that we had fucked it right up, we upped the pace, played with urgency and scored easily. We would have gone on to score more but ran out of time. Why oh fucking why did we have to wait 91 minutes to see that response???!!
Saw the same thing too many times last season. Passed it around all match and tried to go for it when it was too late. We need to learn to go for it from the first minute like we did v Newcastle. Hangover from last season or residual trait? Whatever it is, it needs to be rectified sharpish.

I think the Newcastle game masked our problems.

Pre season we were leaking goals and that continued yesterday.

Home games we will be fine but Hughes will be preparing Stokes aeriel bombardment now.

Watching that yesterday gives me zero confidence of a win there.

This.

And sadly I think it will happen again repeatedly this season
