Frank Clark as Manchester City manager

Thought we were on the way up, laser blue shirts with our new Frank Clarke sighnin Lee Badbuy, talked like he'd just come from the dentist and looked like an old parafin you used to get living in the park.

Glory be. I think I actually sent him a letter, hoping for a period of stability at the club. Fat lot of good that did!

I was like 6 or something when he was manager, i sent him a letter too (can't remember what it was about) and he wrote me one back thanking me for my support and telling me to keep playing football, always liked him for that, dont remember much about his management though!

Thats probably why he was so wank, was reading letters all the time. I sent him one to, I was abou 10/11 ish at the time and told him we should sign Anderson of Lyon (i think) I had him on Championship manager and he was mint.

Got a signed photo back...

Was underwhelmed by his appointment, he only had that european match against Bayern when he was Forest manager to cling onto and put on the CV.

Leaked goals for fun with an average defence involving Kit Symons. I'm sure Clarke bought Paul Beesley and Jason Van Blerk, without Tzchachadze (sp?) due to long term injury we were knackered. Jason Van Blerk ended up in non league football around 3 years after he left us despite some Australian caps too.

No charisma, a nothing man really who did not have the resource or bottle to rip up Alan Ball's legacy, take risks and start again. Was behind the times of the game as it was played.

Compare that to Joe Royle, great signings and acquired for a pittance. Took risks and they paid off. Goater got bad press even from City fans even before he pulled on the shirt when we signed him.

Think Frank Clarke's only decent signing was Kevin Horlock, am i right in thinking he signed him? I was only about 13 at the time.

He's better at playing his guitar than being a football manager. I'd forgot about him until reading this thread - shocking football during his reign except for Kinky. Although there were many top away days in the lower leagues.

Point here about clark and joe royle goes back to franny. By the time royle came in he didnt have to put up with any interference from the chairman as he was on his way out. Clark didnt buy bradbury, lee did, one of many deals between him and venables at portsmouth including paul walsh and gerry creaney.

Royle turned down the northern ireland job at xmas, the board wanted to call an egm to sack clark and appoint royle, who was waiting for a call for weeks.

They were waiting for lee to decide what to do but he decided to go ahead with his holiday in barbados and royle and donachie couldnt take over till mid feb. We could have stayed up. Clark was sacked in the car park but i was part of the lee out campaign and was called on the wednesday before the bury game that the manager would be sacked regardless after that game and we should definitely have a demo out as by changing the manager again the chairman hoped to secure his own position, but other board members wanted the moral authority to act and makin then went on gmr

Yes clark had a terrible record but his main problem was francis lee

When he got appointed I thought we could of sneaked a play-off place after the debacle we had with the previous managers during that season. However everything turned to rat shit during his full season in charge.

Don't think Franny did buy Lee Bradbury. Franny has criticised the signing a few times and said that he would often mentally put himself in Bradbury's situation on the field of play to try and understand what he was trying to do, but more often than not he felt Bradbury would always make the worst move or decision!

THE worse we have had since i have been going (1986)

Ged Brannan- say no more

I would of said myself.

Alan Ball,
Steve Coppell. for fucking us of and leaving us in the shit within a month.
Frank Clark,

pretty much how i feel - Ball wrecked us. Him and Lee systematically got rid of our highest earners and managers like Clark were expected to pick up the pieces. Wrong man at the wrong time. Royle proved it could be done but we should never have been in that position in the first place. I know Lee was a top player for us but he was a disaster as chairman.

I'll never forget the day Ball was hired and how deflated I felt. In my gut I just knew this appointment was going to spell disaster for us. Not had that feeling before or since.
