Replacing Fernandinho is so hard. He has great passing and shooting ability, as well as a physical presence in the midfield/defense. Frenkie De Jong doesn't look too strong to me. Would he really be the right fit for us? I don't doubt his passing/dribbling qualities and holding the ball, but perhaps we should be looking for a stronger defensive mid who can cope with a few tackles. This kid would stand zero chance against Lukaku, Salah or Kane.

I keep reading this line about him being weak and yet all it suggests to me is that you have never watched the kid.

Fernandinho is 125th in the tackles stas for the premier league with 9. Our highest is Bernardo with 12 and he's 83 rd. Tackling isn't something we really do it's certainly not top priority.

My point was very clear,he isnt weak,as you would know if you had watched him on something other than youtube highlights.So,when misleading and misrepresentative opinions like yours appear on this thread,because you feel the need to say something......it helps the discussion in no way,shape or form.

Yes, but Fernadinho does that now , I don't see any reason why De Jong couldn't make the 1 tackle a match Fernandinho seems to be averaging. It' noticable that Bernardo makes more higher up the pitch.

I was being facetious. I've been arguing for years that ''protecting the back four'" and 'doing the defensive work' were both ancient ideas that needed shelving. The fallacy of needing a back 4 protector is been dismantled as we speak.. I mean watch :)

Like I has said back then, we'd be defending with possession and the press not a tackling machine protecting the back 4.

And yes, hence why we need a player like DeJong :)

This lad is the real deal.

We either go all in for him and be very aggressive in the market or we save ourselves a few months of messing around. Barca are obviously a more attractive proposition than us to most players, but we can use our financial clout to bully them out of the running in this one.

Let's NOT make the same mistake as we did in the summer over the Jorginho saga.
