Frenkie de Jong

If that was going to be possible, I'm sure it would have been done by now. Either we don't want him (for whatever reason), or he doesn't want us.
Or we are not posturing to pay, 17 million euros, as that is Barca’s bullshit.

FDJ is an insane player, talented, and very mouldable. He is multi-valent, can play numerous positions, CB, CM, CAM, CDM.

He has pace, vision, good shot, passing accuracy.

My nose says, if the deferred wages were not there, it would have been the easiest player swap in history.

Also, the player might want half a million salary, which is idiotic, and it’s a precursor to trouble.

Or the numbers from Barca don’t add up? Earlier in the window @tolmie's hairdoo mentioned Frenkie wanted us and pep wanted him but maybe city value Bernardo higher than Frenkie and Barca the opposite etc? Personally I would prefer Frenkie over Bellingham and it would be a huge surprise that if Barca manage to offer £80m for Bernardo then we don’t do a deal involving Frenkie but they will always be two separate deals for accounting purposes? If we sold Bernardo for £80m it would show a huge profit on our books due to the amortization that has occurred on Bernardo’s contract and renewal previously. One to watch imo though depending on his outstanding wages issue which even scattergun Todd isn’t going to pay. We really could do with Frenkie though if possible as Gundogan seemingly has to be managed with his back issue and Kev always picks up muscle injuries? Martinez will flog Kev at the World Cup as well so an extra body in there if Bernardo deal happens would certainly be advisable.

Main thing if Benardo leaves is a having a replacement lined up. This guy is the most obvious in a swap deal. Don’t see anyone else out there who has that quality to replace him.
Maybe we are waiting to see what deal other clubs try to broker first, the longer this goes on i can see his value dropping. its a matter of who blinks first. He knows he will be taking a pay cut whetever he goes its just a matter of how much of a cut.

And if he has the desire to still get well paid or play for pep and go for the money more than football?

He doesn't have the mobility or the same skill sets to replace bernardo. He would be more like a gundogan replacement imo. City aren't too bothered about him though clearly.

A bernardo replacement would surely be someone who could get round the pitch like bernardo, but with a similar level of aggression and technical ability to match. Barella is the only one who has similar ish stats to bernardo for all round ability. Paqueta and people like that would represent a more attacking/goal threat, but I doubt you would get the defensive work.

The only other one I'd be v interested in seeing as a replacement would be veratti. He's a top top player and can do the hard yards deeper in the midfield. I think he'd be one pep adores.

Injures are the main issue with him but he is a player I'd love to see in our team.
