He's playing deeper and it suits him.Foden faded a bit late on but I thought that was one of his best performances in a City shirt. Just need him to do it constantly.
Just like City at 5-1.After reading the first three pages Im going to hold back what I actually want to say about the frauds in the forum. Im starting to think there needs to be some sort of proper vetting being done for people to participate in game threads. So Im gonna just hold back for now.
Think if any player boots a ball miles away way after the whistle has gone, in injury time when that team is hanging on, they’ll get booked 100% of the time. Why was that a booking? With all the balls around the pitch it didn't delay the restart. (But the Leeds goalie didn't get a card for receiving the ball for a goal kick and running away from the goal area.)
Regrettably last night Nunez looked like what he is, a midfielder learning to play right back. NOR as good as he has been is also learning to play left back. It is no coincidence that for the second game in succession the opposition manager made substitutions at half time to exploit our inexperience at full back.Defender's instincts are the boot the ball upfield or into row Z, Nunes doesn't understand the dangers around him and gets into trouble leaving us wide open
It’s a hard life:)Great stuff
We defended deep succesfully away to the best team in the league and probably should have won. This approach should be available as a plan B given the current propensity to collapse.I think there's a few issues at play.
First is we look caught between being the City of the last few seasons and this new approach of reducing possession to attack more directly or use counters.
We don't really look built to sit in for large periods. The common theme I see is a team shift to a 3 - 2 - 5 and overwhelm our defensive line, whilst we look to press but can't and become passive, which allows them wide access. Fulham were almost a 2 - 2 - 6 in the second half.
Unless everyone gets back in behind the ball and we sit 30 yards from goal then this will persist being an issue. Or we just shift to a 5 4 1.
Second the personnel didn't work in the second half either. Rodri evidently a huge miss but also we aren't connecting passes or relieving pressure correctly. They were just flimsy attacks that left us needing to cover large spaces to get back in. We never rested in possession by using someone like Cherki earlier.
The first eleven has been run into the ground and important players like Khusanov, Marmoush, Rodri and possibly Ait-Nouri haven't got going this season at all.
Next time we're in this position and a team goes all out, ideally we can move into something like this -
Donnarumma
Nunes Stones Dias Gvardiol Oreilly
Nico Rodri
Cherki Haaland Foden
There's sufficient balance of ball carrying and technique there. Also interchangeable positions like Doku/Marmoush for one of the forwards or Khusanov/Ait Nouri into the backline.
The problem is we are reffed differently, whilst it’s ok to “leave something on our players” in fact it’s encouraged, if our players do it it’s instant swift justice.Just watched the highlights and it is striking that on 2 of their goals (at least) our closing down on the player about to strike it was terrible.
This is more of a worry than the personnel. Everyone should be throwing everything at those situations and none of our players did. None. They put their hands behind their back and hung a legout half-arsed.
This has been the case all season and expecially away. Think about how we capitulated at Brighton because they came at us.They used to talk about the 'black arts' of Fernandinho and Rodri, breaking up the play in the middle. Nico has done alright but needs to do more of that and Erling has to leave something on their defenders early doors, he gets clattered constantly and zero protection so he has to look after himself.
Do all that right and we won't be moaning about the odd misplaced pass by Nunes or Sav.
Ankle mate, due back FebruaryThanks. What kind of injury?
Amended for accuracy2 points behind arsenal who are lauded as the harlem rodneytrotters
and we are shite apparently
can't wait till we are good
Putting your hands behind your back to avoid handball is one thing but turning away so the ball doesn't hit you in the chest is not acceptable. There's a reason we do this.
Because too many times we've given away penalties for handball when players have been deemed to be in an unnatural position despite their best efforts to avoid the contact, and yet opposition players are allowed to throw whatever shapes they want to block the ball. The PiGMOL don't need much of an excuse.
Now not to be accused of being a happy clapper but lets have some perspective here, two dreadful performances BUT two wins any other team would be praised for finding ways to win when not playing great but for us the world is falling in.
To listen to the press we could be relegation candidates not two points behind the greatest tarquin team of all time also according to the press.
We all have the right to complain and some things absolutely need addressing but a bit of balance sometimes doesnt go amiss.
Thats me all is rosy and savinho is quality ;)Nah....
Happy clapper!!!
