Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

The owner really needs to sort this out now because the board are not.

We are going backwards in every way

Lots of players, staff & management's need to go on top of Signings which have been shocking

This can not continue. 2nd in league means nothing
We have gone backwards from the greatest decade of football this club has ever had. It was never going to continue like that forever. That’s football.

That was my point about Pep being stubborn as you've mentioned regarding the players we currently have.

We don't have the players to play the possession based way anymore, so I think he needs to adjust and work on the team defensively out of possession.

With the way Peps playing style is normally, when we lose possession we have players all within short distances of eachother to win the ball back quickly, we can't do that anymore either because allt of our lads don't have the legs anymore.

So both possession based and our pressing game isn't what is was, so Pep needs to come up with fresh ideas of how to go about it. I think we can all agree we need to sort out the team defensively as its a complete mess.
Yes agreed. I suppose the bottom line is we lack the quality we had, to play the way we did.

Points totals after 14 games in previous seasons:

16/17: 30 points (finished 3rd)
17/18: 40 points (finished 1st)
18/19: 38 points (finished 1st)
19/20: 29 points (finished 2nd)
20/21: 26 points (finished 1st)
21/22: 32 points (finished 1st)
22/23: 32 points (finished 1st)
23/24: 30 points (finished 1st)
24/25: 26 points (finished 3rd)
25/26: 28 points (?)

If we can click, maaaaybe 80+ points is possible. Right now I think we're on for 75-78 and 2nd place.

Remember a couple of years back in our pomp we had a general rule of thumb which was lose the ball but get it back within 6 seconds which we did with Bernardo, Gundo Rodri and earlier Fernandino snapping at the opposition. Where's that gone?

Important to note we only allowed 0.92xG.

Fulham had some absolute top shelf goals. That's not to say we didn't play a part in that but I think we should take it down a notch.

We need Rodri BAD.
Yeah on another night that Iwobi one in particular goes into row Z.

Four high quality goals all caught perfectly.

The shortcomings of the team are well documented above so I'll take the positives;

3 points at a hard away ground
Erling gets the 100 goals albatross off his back
Phil is back scoring (good goals too)
Reijnders got on the scoresheet
Doku is a handful even when he's not playing particularly well
With a bit of luck we could have had 2 more goals that hit the inside of the post

We move on.

Doku's had some poor games for us, and tonight was no exception ..... he seems to just misplace passes, and lose the ball at will.

Yet, until Fulham scored their first goal, we looked comfortable, in control, and had a number of contenders for our man of the match .... but that last half hour was worrying as they 'turned the screw'.

I will say it again, a complete inability to sustain performance levels. Physically pathetic, and even weaker mentally.

How many times over the last 18 month have we seen us look sharp, only to inexplicably collapse, mid way through a first half, or come out second half with no legs.

We do still have some things to be positive about and some genuine world class talent, but it’s being gobbled up by some incredibly average footballers.

Couple of whiskies have just sorted out a quite severe attack of Cityitis.

All good now. Haaland broke the record as we scored 5 away from home. He hit the post twice - the 2nd one nearly made it 6-3 and 30 seconds later it was 5-4!

Manager decided to give them a chance by taking us down to 10 men, bringing Savio on for Doku. Then Cherki helped out near the end by some clever control and passing - I was very impressed with his contribution.

Just watched Pep's presser - I recommend it to you: his best one ever. Told the press while talking about the game "....well, none of you are City fans...." Fuckin' great.

2nd in the league and much to improve on defensively but all's well that ends well. Haaland; Foden; great! Add Rodri in there some time soon and we'll be cooking with gas again.

Up the blues!!!
