Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I have to ask what has happened to Philips??? Im presuming he's fit, if so surely he can protect the back four better than whoever we brought on when Nico went off. It's truly baffling, especially as he's had enough time around the place to pick some tips on how we play. Perhaps that shoulder injury and operation means he's as good as finished.

Luck. They were lucky with the 2 shots. Half the time those balls hit the rafters and are a mile off.

I've watched a ton of Chukweze for Nigeria, he is not remotely close when it comes to accurate shots. Those shots were Foden levels. If he were that good hed be Nigeria's best player by a mile.

He is a phenomenal dribbler who dribbles into cul de sacs often and makes lots of bad decisions. Against us, he was straight up making all the right decisions

Unless he has leveled up in the last month you can chalk it up to just another" Against City Purple patch"

We survived the onslaught. Lets hope we get better out of possession generally going forward.
At last some perspective !
1st goal
Smith Rowe managed to find the one place Donn couldnt get to.
2nd goal
Ricochet straight to Iwobi ,(Foden should have got to him) but great finish.
3rd goal
Poor control from Bernado, instinctive finish ( again only place out of reach)
4th goal
Palmed out ,instinctive finish, through bodies and again the ONE place out of reach !
All goals except Iwobi were out of character and are highly unlikely to be executed by their perpetrators again.
Yes we should of closed them down quicker and were relieved to win in the end.
Onwards and upwards .

No idea mate but every time he's played for us, even for a few minutes when we've been winning comfortably, he never looked hood. His touch, passing and general physique all looked - to me - like he was unfit.

I've no idea how it's happened but he will never play for us again.

Watched it. Every one of their four goals had similar aspects. Cut-backs/corners with deep runners in literally acres of space without a City player within yards. We defended in a line quite deep and invited them on to the ball. Unfortunately for us each of their finishes were wonderful but that doesn’t change the fact that our midfield was either too deep or not engaged. We have to find a way to defend the space immediately in front of the penalty box.
I said the same mate when I watched it. We literally had everyone packed in the 6 yard box and left them free to have a shot.

Part of me thinks they got lucky as it's hard to find a gap with all those players in front of you, but you can it harder just having someone cover the space to stop the players outside the area running onto balls.

I doubt those same players would score those chances 8 times out of 10. We were unlucky with that but it doesn't hide the fact that we gave them the opportunity when it seems on the face of it that it should be easy to fix.

Bumped into some of his family members in The Wheatsheaf in town after a match a couple of years back. They'd travelled over because he'd told them it would probably be his last appearance for City and he was off in the summer.

Apparently, he is a very sensitive type, not very self confident and takes criticism to heart, especially social media. He then gets down on himself, doubts his talent and his performances suffer. Deep down, he's a regular bloke who knows he's not good enough to establish himself in a squad full of international world class players.

One of the worst transfers for both the club and the player. Real shame, but a busted flush on match day.

But, he gave us the immortal "he fucking hates uni**d" moment at the parade, live on Sky and for that, he'll do me.

It's bizarre because you surely don't become a premier league player and an England international without some self belief and mental toughness.

He was not uncertain, he punched them away. Which is what Trafford would have done most likely.

Counter factual fiction is not the answer to sorting this team out. And the GK is not the issue. Taking off our DM on 64 caused all of the problems. And judging by Pep’s comments after the game he’s focussing on that. Hope Rodri can play soon.
Teams are targeting us at set pieces. Trafford would have dealt with it better. It is not only Donnarumma but he needs to be more imposing like he was against Gunners.

Agree regarding the DM as well. We should have balanced the team better with the subs. Ait Nouri lb and Nico O in mid. Beef cherki iwould be ideal to bring on earlier as well. Also Omar instead of Sav.

Re Savinho, it still baffles me as to why we offered him a six year deal. I get that it protects his transfer valuation but that only works if he's putting in the performances. The rate he's going we won't be able to sell at all and he'll go back to Brazil in 2031 on a free

True, but that step from Lids to an elite all-conquering squad of players can expose the body and mind to new challenges never before faced. He doesn't seem to have that certain "arrogance" and swagger that elite players possess. Any weakness then gets jumped on by the trolls on social media and you are in a very different place mentally.

Nice lad, but probably a bit too nice to thrive in the stratospheric success we enjoyed after he signed.
