you never see stars in real time.

when you look at a star because its so far away it takes a while for the light to hit earth. so say your looking at a star that takes 1000 years for the light to hit earth, thats how the star looked 1000 years ago......so if the star blew up 500 years ago. you will see the explosion 500 years later. but you wont hear the sound until even longer.

i think thats about right.

That's right, the sound will take longer...

Fun fact of the day: Sound can't propagate through vacuum (space). Basically no sound in space.
