Funny things that have happened to you at The Etihad.

Or for that matter Maine Road...........

Around 12 months ago I bought new City home shirt in the Etihad superstore, and took it upstairs to have Bell 8 put on the back of it.

So far so good...

However I was amazed when the charming young girl doing the job behind the counter said to me "How do you spell Bell?"

Now, in her defence, I appreciate she has to be careful because once the letters have been applied it is too late and an expensive item could be ruined.....on the other hand the "King" is a City legend and there can't be that many ways to spell Bell...:)

Any more?

We know how to spell Bbeelll, and the young lass knew how to spell Belll. She was just making sure YOU knew how to spell it, or how you wanting it spelling!

The funniest thing I've encountered was only at the last match when I passed the old dear on the zimmerframe dressed head to toe in MANUre kit, telling me she only came to see Rooney step off the coach!

Guess not really funny but I was in the concourse at half time deciding on a bet to have at half time. Anyway I overheard this chap next to me saying he was going to have Distin first goal in the second half and because I couldn't decide I backed what he said. £10 on Distin to score the first goal in the second half v Bolton. Think we were already 4-1 up at half time. Anyway he did score the first goal and I did collect my £510 winnings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not seeing a goal at home in the 2006/7 season after new year,i had to see the funny side or i would have cried.

Years ago queuing for tickets for hours at the ticket office at Maine Road. Half way down the queue outside the main entrance. Couple of kids from the queue having a kick about to relieve the boredom. Car pulls up and parks in a space in the middle of their makeshift pitch and Colin Bell gets out of the car. One of the kids pipes up "FFS, do you work here or summat"

I must have been stood almost next to you.

A rag i know bought her husband a United kit with his name on the back - Rodney

He wasn't happy when he unwrapped the "ROONEY" shirt the illiterate staff had printed.

As it's mad Friday...

The Kippax last stand was mad [when they were knocking down the terracing for the seating stand].

People just took whatever they liked.

My enduring memory of that day was two lads legging it out of the back of the Kippax holding the 'Colin Bell Bar' sign.

A bizarre day, sad but funny. We all knew that it wouldn't be the same again but history had caught up with us, as it should. Onwards and upwards BUT they were special times, on a good day 20k Mancunians heaving across an immense terrace.
