As much as I love watching Dos Santos playing for Mexico, he just can't replicate any kind of form for his club side and I think it's a mental issue with him. Sure, its great to be patriotic for your country but your club pays the wages.
Having lived in Mexico and watched the league for a while and seen almost all of their star players move abroad without much success (in recent years only Rafa Marquez and Javier Hernandez being the exceptions) I kinda think that it could be down to a couple of reasons. Firstly, once they sign a huge money deal, that is it. With such poverty and corruption in the country, the comfort level they must feel after knowing that their contract ensures them and their families financial security for life, seems to reduce their desire to give it everything. I think this is illustrated when you see Carlos Salcidos' performances for Fulham and Pablo Berreras' for West Ham).
Giovannis' younger brother is still with Barca so that seems to show that he is still hungry. Perhaps due to him currently not being part of the national team.
