That's not strictly true. As I recall, the death threats etc started when he said he'd rather play for the RoI or a united Ireland side.
Not an excuse for what he had to endure but it wasn't simply because he was a Catholic at Celtic.
As a young player, Neil lived across the road from me, he was a lovely guy, always happy to chat football and life.
