Game of Thrones

One thing that did bother me about the first episode (aside from that jarring Ed Sheeran cameo) was Sam's discovery of the Dragonglass mountain.

In Season 5, Stannis tell Sam that Dragonstone had an abundance of the stuff. He may even have said "mountains of it" or something along those lines, I'm not sure.

When Sam sees it in the book he steals, he says something like "Stannis told me about it but I wasn't sure whether to believe him". It just seemed really off because: a) Sam is unlikely to have forgotten or overlooked this piece of information in the first place, given its importance; and b) Stannis was known for being a straight-talker.

I wonder if the writers just forgot this and then remembered at the eleventh hour, and so had to quickly amend the script!

Also would not Stannis sidekick forgot his name sorry no fingers know this and could inform John as he is now sitting beside him?

Haha yeah, good point.

I think we're beginning to see the difference in quality between G.R.R. Martin and the show's writers (as they've now overtaken the books).

all that was said in Sam conversation with Stanis was that they had it at dragonstone, not by how much though.

It has been noticed that the picture in the book has the dragonglass on tge coast in a cave/mine much like the cave Danny walks past on the beach.

If so maybe Stanis and Ser Davos wasn't aware, shirlely there would be dragonglass hanging about the castle and that is what Stanis was refering to at the wall.

A few weeks ago someone on Reddit leaked the plot to Season 7. Of course everyone called him a bullshiter and didn't believe it. But what is interesting is that the first episode matched what he said would happen word for word. I won't post it on here cos I don't wanna ruin it but I think he was the real deal.
Stick it in a spoiler, I would have a read.

Who remembers Gendry escaping from Dragonstone, what the fuck happened to him?......is he still rowing?........when will he return?

You see, this is a slow burner. Think about it, the lad has a few key points about him.

1) Friends with Arya, potential partner for her.
2) Most important, he is the only guy aboit who can work with Valeryian steel. He made needle for Arya if you can recall?
3) Remember Davos likes the lad and saved him, knowing who his Dad was.

Gendry will be a character we will see end of s7 or start of s8.

Looks like it will Euron Greyjoy v the Martells first, and after that Dany v EuronXLannisters. Jon will be kept busy with the Whytes and the Dragons will be key. The biggest problem is Euron has the Dragonhorn.

I still find myself shaking my head and thinking 'wtf were they thinking' with having Ed Sheeran in it. Nothing against the fella himself but this is a fantasy escapist type show, having real life smash it's big boot down in the middle of it ruined the episode a bit for me.

No different to some of the actors IMO. I had a similar reaction to seeing Sheeran when Jim Broadbent appeared as the lead maester fellow.

Needle was made by the Winterfel blacksmith, commissioned by Jon. None of the Starks met Gendry until Ned went looking for Rob's bastards. Davos saved him, not because of who his dad was, but because he was just an innocent lad from Flea Bottom (where Davos grew up) who was about to be sacrificed by the Red Witch (who Davos has always hated).
Gendry is in this season. The actor was photographed on set.

In the books, yes. But there hasn't been a single mention or clue about this in the T.V. show, so unless they pull it out 'deus ex machina' (which would be pretty bad writing on their part), I don't think it will feature. Could be wrong, but I'd be surprised.

A fair point indeed. I think the close up and lingering shot on his face was what did it 'hey look Ed Sheeran is here guys' kinda thing. I did think 'ahh there is Jim Broadbent' but quickly forgot/suspended my disbelief.

Arya was imprisoned with Gendry, Gendry stayed with the Men with no banners until sold. Gendry is Stannis's nephew too. Davos saved for mercy but got on wuth the lad as they rowed.

We watched season six again to catch up as you can easily lose feel of the plot over time.
I could do with watching all of the seasons again as you miss so much the first time around which is what I shall do.

Anyway we watched the battle of the bastards season 6 which was the penultimate episode before season 7
We have a new TV and watched the battle twice because it was that intense and we wanted to appreciate the colours and sound produced.
I'm drifting slightly but the jist is we watched Johhny Vegas do at least six re-takes for a 30 second scene the other day on the promenade.
Can you even then begin to imagine how long that battle scene took to master to utter perfection.
These people are consumate profesionals and this programme has to rank up there with the best ever that was made for film or tv.
Thank you so much to Viridian for these threads.

Sword sworcery and fantasy are my genre since the early works of Robert Ervin Howard. The man was a literary genius and I do not say that lightly.
However .. and no disrespect but was this series copied from Howards mythological world of Hyboria and his Hyborian age.
Was the inspiration for fire and ice derived from Conan the cimmerian and Howards fantasy world ? I wonder.

I guess this bit was included to manufacture a path to the...
cure for grayscale. Sam will look at the page again and, all of a sudden, notice the cure for grayscale is dragon glass and go off to cure Jorah.

MORE IMPORTANTLY....

I just caught a 10 second preview for episode two, and...
NYMERIA!

Thank god another dire wolf is back!!!! The only reason I even watch... ;)

The horn will feature as it's the reason the wall crumbles, they'll most likely show Sam explain it to Gilly after she reads it in one of the books at the Citadel... but he'll talk about it as if it's common knowledge in the 7 kingdoms, but also to explain it to the viewers.

I see Ed Sheeran deleted his twitter due to the backlash he was getting over his GoT appearance.

Lol.

lol shame that, he seems a sound fella, just management oversight on the production i think. Some twat on set is mates with him so they had a word and before you know it Ed is a Lannister soldier.

I'm not so sure. I think the wall will be breached because
Bran has been marked by the Night King and in crossing beyond the wall's magic he will allow the NK to get through (as happened with the THree Eyed Raven's lair). The lad who played Bran may have recently hinted that the NK get's in because of a cock-up

Guess we'll see!
