Okay, as promised, here it is: the thread for Game of Thrones' seventh season. And as promised, I'm going to fill this opening post with links to blogs, websites, episode recaps, season recaps, podcasts, forums, you name it. This thread will also have a few bits for those looking to get into the show for the first time and need some convincing, so keep a look out for newbies posts!

Brief introduction to Game of Thrones for newbies:
For the newbies reading this, Game of Thrones is a high fantasy drama based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, written by author George R.R. Martin - it has been broadcast by the US television network HBO since its first episode in 2011. It has just finished its sixth season (and sixtieth episode), and is due to return in spring 2017.

It's set in a universe loosely based on medieval England and medieval France. There's lots of blood, violence, death, sex, war, more death, politics, oh and a bit more death. Running through this already expansive universe are sorcery, religion, magic, dragons and heavy mythology. This makes for an initially overwhelming but quickly engrossing story full of tyrannical leaders, honest rebels, gorgeous heartthrobs, deceitful assassins, lovable idiots and dangerous conquerors.

Here's a fantastic beginners guide which fleshes all of that out: http://blog.blinkbox.com/game-of-thrones-a-beginners-guide/

Here's the wonderful theme tune:

IF YOU'RE A NEWBIE AND DON'T WANT TO HAVE BASICALLY EVERY MAJOR PLOT POINT SPOILED, DON'T GO ANY FURTHER. SEASON 6 PLOT SPOILERS ALSO FEATURE HEAVILY FROM HERE.

Okay, guys and girls, down to the real nitty gritty.

Now that season 6 has been out of the way for more than ten days, I think that's more than enough time to be looking ahead to season 7 (yes I am impatient). This will hopefully be the main discussion thread for the 7th season of Game of Thrones from this point on, but if the mods would prefer to separate this thread from the main discussion thread when season 7 actually airs next spring then that's totally fine.

I'll be updating this original post in the event of the following:

· when fresh news being posted in this thread
· when I come across official news on the internet

A lot of you are clearly as invested into the show as I am but could perhaps do with some fantastic resources to kill the boredom before next season comes around again. Instead of watching through every episode once more, which I'm currently planning to do with a friend of mine who is yet to lay his eyes on this wonderful series, I'm going to be providing all of you with the following over the course of this thread:

· official news and leaked tidbits to get excited over
· insightful articles to sift through
· detailed and committed YouTube channels to explore (full of theories and commentary)
· reaction videos to laugh, cheer and cry at

· podcasts to check out
· huge forums to join up to

... and much, much more as the months go by!

So, without further ado:

Is it true that there will be a delay with series 7 as they are waiting for it to look like winter in all locations they shoot?

Brilliant work Viridian, as per. Totally screwed my plan to try and forget about it until nearer the time though.
So cheers, yer bastard

Nice work OP!

I'm thinking s7 will focus on the battle for Westeros and then at the end of the series, the Wall will come down (due to Bran and his mark etc), forcing everyone left to unite against the Night's King

Is this going to be the last season or will there be one more after season 7? One the one hand I was finally weaning myself off now this season is over then... this thread. Damn you and Bless you OP.

From Rotten Tomatoes:

Winter isn’t coming just yet. D.B. Weiss and David Benioff stated in an interview with the UFC Unfiltered podcast, that season seven of Game of Thrones will be premiering later in 2017 to allow more time to film during colder weather. Weiss stated, “Winter is here, and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather — even in the sunnier places that we shoot.” No specific premiere date was given in the interview, and HBO had no comment on Weiss’ remarks.

From MovieFone:

"Game of Thrones pre-production news is thinner on the ground this year, as the show has pushed filming back until September of 2016. But casting has continued, we've heard. As reported back in June, GoT began casting for season 7, looking for a pair of Northern young people for a 'a high-stakes scene.'"

"We've heard rumblings over the last couple weeks from our sources that the castings have continued but no major roles have been secured or leaked at this point. More than just two young performers are being cast, we've heard there will be several, but the exact parts are still unknown."
