City struggled tonight because a lot of the team were playing on empty. Nothing to do with Garcia, although I don't like it when we play him and Barry together. Only works if Yaya gets forward a lot, and he wasn't. Basically the whole midfield just sat there and left the Wigan back 4 untroubled, and Nasri alone was left to run at them from deep.

Yes that whole 1 cap for the national team as a sub is proof of his "quality". I don't get the way some folks grade him on such a curve. If he plays mediocre then it's proof he's quality. Nothing is expected of him but to be "OK". He's not expected to effect the game in any way. If he clearly a couple balls on corners he's soemhow done his job. I don't get it. He's a less effective version on NDJ yet he's good while NDJ was constantly critisized for his lack of effect on the game. Why do some feel it's important to make excuses for the guy? If he was playing for Stoke he'd fit right in and he'd be an acceptable player. We're not Stoke. We can't win the PL or CL with this guy in the starting 11.

I am sure you know the answer in your heart of hearts. For a certain type of pictures-on-the-wall name-on-the-shirt fan, usually those without much experience of playing the game, being critical of anyone is seen as not being a true 'fan'. So they'll defend the indefensible and then start to call you disloyal for disagreeing. Look for the terms 'moaners' or 'haters' and that's invariably the work of these superfans. Not necessarily marvin because at least he's had half a go at some analysis in the post you're responding to, but there are plenty out there who fit the bill. 'FFS' is a reliable calling card to, as is the phrase 'so-called fans', a phrase who's very content displays the blind fan boy attitude I am referring to. It's a delusion as to the role of a supporter in a football club, often born out of a limited life. To these guys they are a part of the team with an ongoing day to day duty; the old 12th man cliche, even on a windy Wednesday sitting behind their PC in their bedroom.

We can win the league with him in the starting 11, sadly the other 10 players will have to play out their skins. Is George Evans or Ntcham any worse? I'm sure he would be better in La Liga or back at Benfica but he does fuck all for City in the Premiership. It's got to the point where I have no expectations on him but to pass the ball backwards. A truly awful player and I'd happily swap Cattermole or Jenas for him.

We haven't seen everything that Javi Garcia can offer us, and for that reason I think we should be able to keep him for another season without damaging our title chances next season.

However, with Kolarov, I believe we've seen everything he can give to the team. He's got a great shot on him, can occasionally supply a dangerous cross and can hit a free-kick very well, but he can't block crosses, he's inconsistent, he's got little pace and he's probably the most wasteful player in the team. Get rid.

I really can't stress enough how much I think a pre-season and some more confidence will change Garcia.

The usual City fan disease of having to find a scapegoat. I thought Kolarov had an ok game, no worse or better than anyone else.

You won't have two better left backs anywhere else in the country. I like Kolarov and get him wide on that left foot and you can always sense that something good could happen. One of the sweetest left foots around and always a danger from free kicks.

With the lack of support he's getting he's probably lacking confidence.

I always feel sorry for the full backs at this club as they are the ones that will tend to get the vitriolic shouts all game and it can't do anything to help your performance.

I just don't think you can play Garcia and Barry in the middle, they are both really slow and if attackers get through them they are into our defence, but at least Barry is excellent at tackling and his distribution is normally really good, Garcia just doesn't put enough tackles in.

As for Kolarov, he had such a bad game, no way should he be getting into the team, really really poor first half, he has some skill and power with shooting but that's it. There were other poor performances last night (some tired legs from the hard work at Wembley) and the conditions with the wind were bad, but I agree that it was like playing with 9 men at times

Kolarov was the only one of our players who appeared to actually be awake. I generally agree with what you've written here, Marvin. Garcia was a monster presence at Benfica. Let's see what he has to offer next season when he's fully bedded in.
