In all honesty I can't come up with too many big name players that haven't already been mentioned in other threads or would be obtainable .

Exactly, plus the fact he isn't even close to his prime,he's worth every penny, especially given such a player will offer us enormous versatility.

The fee will easily cover itself with the success his talents will bring.
Agree with this except Versatility he can only really play on the Left wing he wasn't that good for Spuds roaming about or on the right and we don't need him as a left back because we have Clichy

I was talking in terms of overall squad versatility and game plan options due to the addition of a player with his attributes.

I just don't see what Bale has done to even approach a 40m valuation (If someone mentions the San Siro I swear to god I will hunt you down). People say he's a good investment because he's 22 but if he has 3 more seasons like he has done this one just gone he's not going to be worth anywhere near that. We should be aiming to get him from Spurs for not a penny over 30m, more than enough for a very very fast but essentially reasonably one dimensional winger.

Absolutely agree apparantly he is world class and will give us something different according to many on here

Would not even touch him at 30m to be honest

Well we'd be paying the British premium tax, it's unavoidable, we either pay it or look abroad. We could probably get better value abroad but we need homegrown players for the quota and Bale has already proven he is a star of this league so the settling in period could be short or non-existent.

If we had a lightning fast player like Bale I believe we could mirror Real Madrid's system when necessary that could help cure our ills in away games by drawing teams out and killing them on the counter. Real have played two wide men, one playmaker, and one traditional centre forward (as well as at least one fast full-back) in many games against difficult teams and it has worked sublimely.

He did score an absolute cracker against us at the "Eithad"!

He's not world class but he's been one of the stand out British players in the premier and you do pay a premium for British players

Crouch scored some might say a beeter goal than Bale so how much would you pay for Crouch?

His iverall contribution this season has not what many Spuds fans would have hoped for - maybe that because Arry moved him inside dont know

Bale is a pretty good player, but he seems to be easily thwarted by defensively sound fullbacks with good positioning sense...even slow ones (take Zabaleta for example).

He can be destructive is he is played the early pass because of his speed, but if we take ages just connecting the dots on the pitch, then I think he will find it more difficult to play his game in our system.

It's a bit like AJ when Pizarro wasn't on the pitch. It takes forever for him to get him on the ball, and by the time it gets to him, he is marked by two opposing players.

I think that buying a player like Bale won't change much if we don't adapt the way we play to the new player.

Absolutely nailed on exactly what i have been saying for a long long time

If we had to spend big money i would like it to be on a quality ball playing centre half and a partner for Yaya - if we can move the ball from back to front quicker then we have enough pace in Tevez - Aguero and god forbid AJ coupled with an new striker to be even more effective

Khedira looks good and was apparantly up for sale in the not too distant past or De Rossi whom appears to be a half decent centre half

Not really bothered if we get him or not, had a fairly poor end to the season. Whether Redknapp was playing him in the wrong position i don't know but i think we can find better, especially at that pricetag.
