Alot of criticism seems to appear his way, i'll admit i'm one of the ones who's give him a bit of stick the last 12 months. I think a change in player, has made a difference.

I'd say a fair share rated Barry 2 years ago, everyone was happy with this signing.

2009: Great footballer. Good touch, not the quickest but a decent passer, reads the game well a break things up cleanly. But the difference now to then and why people have started to get on his back, i was having a chat with a blue last night and he kind of agreed, but my theory...

2012: he's a one dimensional player, who's lost ALOT of his game. IMO he's average passer of the ball at best. Often clumsy and gives it away far too much, especially in the wrong area's. Sometimes ridiculously one footed. But Breaks the play up well and always does that job, apart from that he doesn't offer much more. Games seem to bypass him to easy, you don't get better with age obviously. But he's dipped in areas but still withstands his ability to defend.

I've seen a change in his game, which has lead to criticism and being a scapegoat. This all lye's due to the fact he's lost part of his game. But today and alot for the last 8-9 months, he's played the hollywood ball. Been extremely slow in attack, give it away all the time. Against West Brom he was one of the best on the pitch, broke up play kept it simple. Today he did ok, but the other side of his game he hasn't got let him down again at times.

For me this is my own theory on why he's getting some much stick. If he goes out to play and do his job of breaking up play, then i'm happy with that. At the end of the day, he needs to keep it simple, and stick to what he's good at instead of trying to out do himself.

Cant forgive him for that utterly stupid pass last week at the emirates......tut tut tut, makes me mad as fuck still thinking about it now

you been on the sherry .....
Gareth Barry has been outstanding this season his best for the club and his role for the team is invaluable.

I do though believe we should now be looking at someone to replace him as his legs are going and he;s not getting any younger.

-- Sat Apr 14, 2012 6:54 pm --

you been on the sherry .....

Has to be rotated more next year, he's getting progressively sloppier with his passing and his bad passing is becoming dangerous. It's probably season fatigue, he isn't the the most agile player and next season will probably sit more if we sign a new midfielder.

You've missed the whole point of the thread.

i'm not saying he's hasn't been good, i'm saying when he does play bad games. He plays a game he can't play anymore.

When he keeps it simple, and plays the game he can he's miles better and always one of the best.

And the reason he gets stick, is cause he tries to do his 2007 Villa heroics at City now and it doesn't work.

This is an example of what i'm saying, gareth barry would have dealt with that scenario alot better a few years ago.

Now he panic's, he panicked last week and look what happened.

He's important to us and plays well. But he obviously is slowing down big time. Fine for maybe 1 more season.

He gets slagged off for his lack of pace, but when he plays well he passes the ball on quickly, and generates pace that way.

Replacement will be Milner, play him in one position and he will go to another level, just need a wide player to replace him!
