Gareth Taylor sacked

Wonder what it is about Chloe Kelly that the keyboard warriors find so objectionable?

Blonde?
London Accent?
Irish surname?
Social media presence?
Sponsorships?

Has anyone else ever noticed any other MCWFC player being so mercilessly slagged off in the history of this forum?

Armchair experts desperate to tell us over and over again (in case we forget, or ever deign to have our own opinions) how "literally shit" she is, despite her getting the sum total of sod all playing time to judge her on.

One of the last matches I can remember her playing 90 was when Paris FC visited, and she got a goal, an assist, and a saved shot. When the club played the highlights of the match on the screen before the next WSL game it was effectively a Chloe Kelly highlights video. Following game: back on the bench.

Whilst others have been "Garethed" and left quietly, eventually some-one was going to snap. Watching her playing time evaporate, and her chance at making the Euros with it, she'd plainly had enough.

I say good luck to her, great to see her back on the pitch and being treated with respect by another teaml. And what a goal that was that she scored last week! But, but, but, Gareth (and the bores on here) told us she was shit?!

Sorry to go O/T, just so tired of the one-sided discussion of Kelly on here, and it's being completely at odds with the fans IRL at the ground for whom she was a favourite and a great draw for the club.

Farewell Gareth.
Good luck with your inter-personal skills at the next club.
Maybe they'll let you sit up in the stands like a wally, too.

I heard Kelly's game time issues were caused because she refused two contract renewals, so obviously she was tapped up, allegedly by the ragettes. It was club policy to reduce her game time not Gareth Taylors's. Ultimately he was sacked because WSL results were not good enough even though they are still in ALL the cups. Presumably City have a summer replacement lined up so made an excuse to sack him.
I guess maybe we'll never really know the full goings on, but piecing together the bits we do I firmly suspect Kelly's freezing out was Gareth's choice.

He would bang on about her "earning her place" if asked about her at the pre-match press conferences.

It can't possibly be club policy to bench players leaving on a free. Weir? Stanway? Bronze? All used to the very end, even though both sides knew they were leaving. In Weir's case, everyone knew: it was an open secret for months.

What about Alexandria at present? Apparently leaving on a free to Barca, I'd you'll believe the rumours, but plays every match even though she seems to be regressing lately.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Kelly was keen to stay and sign a new contract, and was obviously settled in Manchester (the city) hence later preferring Man U as a loan destination to keep her at home and gain playing time.

Again, maybe one day it'll come out. It would make a great long form article in a newspaper, with insights from Lavelle, Dahlkemper, Angledahl, Raso, Mace, Walsh, White, Bronze, Weir, Stanway, Morgan, Houghton, Stokes, Roebuck, Kelly......

Thing is, in-favour players could see how you could so easily end up frozen out. Think Hemp didn't see her oppo Kelly getting mistreated, and worry it could happen to her next? Perhaps that is why her renewal took so long. At the time it felt as if Nielsen told her what she needed to hear about his plans to get her to sign, only for him to disappear shortly after. He was apparently talking to fans at Villa away (last game) last season about his big plans, then offski. At the same time as Goater/Williams/Mahon, and not long after Maykel. All very odd and chaotic.

All also not very conducive to signing new talent, moving to City could be seen as a risk? Do we think things have worked out for Oyama as she'd hoped, for example?

What we need is some stability, and a fresh pair of eyes. Just the last match, so many lessons to take from it. The first half was awful, literally every player looked shocking. But when someone takes some initiative, two passes Alexandria>Fowler>Bunny we have a goal in seconds. It looked so easy, and they are more than capable, they just need to get into the right mind-set. Their first thought shouldn't always be to pass it back. How many times did Roord get the ball the other day and immediately ping it backwards? Like she forgets where the opposition's goal is.

We know that they know what going direct looks like, as it is every other team's way of scoring against us, so have seen it repeatedly at close quarters. Why not give it a try more often. What's the quote. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. (Wayne Gretsky/Michael Scott!).

I don’t know much about it but those that are do seem united in their belief that he was poison.
Is Cushing free soon or contracted elsewhere?

Thought it was odd days after Bunny was racially abused and he said he’d not spoke to her about it yet. Summed up his people management skills tbh.
Shocking that he hadn't spoken to her but even worse not to realise how bad a look it was to publicly admit it!
Even if we don't beat Chelsea in any of the upcoming four matches there should hopefully be more spark about the team, Taylor seemed to have them doubting their own ability at times. Failing to win the WSL with the resources available during his tenure was unforgivable, especially last season's farce.

Cushing is free. After leaving City women in February 2020 to join the NYCFC men's team as assistant manager (precipitating Taylor's appointment), he had two years in full charge in New York but lost his job when the last MSL season ended in November. The BBC's Emma Sanders claimed that he'd been enjoying taking a few months out to be with his family and wouldn't have returned at this stage to a job other than at City owing to his affection for the club.

Looks as though the media has been briefed that Cushing isn't a candidate for the job on a permanent basis and Sanders stated his main ambitions currently lie in the men's game in any case. I hope we go for someone with a proven top-class record in the women's game, anyway. If playing a possession style is a prerequisite, then find someone who embraces that kind of game, but also hopefully who's aware that it doesn't necessarily have to entail constant passing backwards and sideways for the sake of it.

As for the timing, I can only assume that O'Neill and Sjögran think that Taylor had lost the dressing room, which is certainly how things appear to me from outside. If so, even if injured players return, the chances of winning a cup and finishing in the top three with him at the helm would have been fairly minimal, so why not roll the dice and see if someone who had a superior record to Taylor's in the same job can improve the atmosphere and thus performances.

Yeah I know CFG like the women to play a certain way. Maybe Therese and Charlotte can convince them to move away from that for the sake of success in the womens team.

Hopefully mate.

It's not the style of CFG footy, it's the application from the players applying it.

There's no adventure or movement, so it recycles side-to-side or back for safety, rather than attempt to break the lines.

That's a demand from the manager, not the players.

I’m sure The Goat will be considered in the summer.

You know, I was thinking on how he played with his temp position with Villa.

He really improved them. Did they not go on an unbeaten run for a bit until they played us?

By all accounts, a team "not as talented" playing much better.

I would like to see him back at ours in some kind of coaching capacity up to and including assistant coach, if not coach.

I think that's unfair. We have the third biggest budget in the league. If we were to win it that would be a great achievement.
Taylor has had a lot of quality players during his time in charge, there's no excuse for him failing to win the WSL in my book, especially last season when all that was needed was to keep the ball in the opposition's half for 5 minutes or so.

Hi Chloe,

I know you're busy with sponsorship deals and social media, so I'll make it quick.

You stopped being a team player, choosing glory over simple passes to your team mate who had empty nets to tap in, while you missed a lot of chances even though you scored some. Oh and stopped tracking back. Nobody knows why.

Your replacement, Miss Fujino, knows when to shoot, when to pass and when to track back. She's been a much better balance to the team with her work ethic and I'm even one who questioned her arrival in the beginning.

Now I don't.

Good luck with whatever happens to your career, Clo.

Bye-ee.

To be fair to you, I'm of a similar mindset about the play.

I, for the life of me, don't know why Roord is in the team when she can't be arsed/ out of form. She's a crucial part of the set up, so her form leaves a big hole and it's like we're playing with 10 in the team.

Entirely probably that Kelly did fall out with Taylor, but I'm pretty sure she mentioned how disappointed she was, especially as it was another woman.

Probably more to the story.

As for hating Kelly, I don't. She seems pleasant enough. Didn't like the way she tries to force her way out of the club and I'm sure any ill feeling towards her by blues is because of that, not her name, accent etc.
