Gary Neville

The fornicator is my favourite pundit, I'm sorry to say. He is ridiculously even handed. It was such a turn up for the books considering how much he hated City and the Red Scouse when he was a player. Who can forget the pre-match tunnel snubbing of Schmeichel on the last Maine Road derby day, (and this happened even though rat boy was captain for that match). Then there was his head-long charge towards the Kop after the Rags go a lucky last minute winner a few years back with a murderous look on his face.

He seems to have matured, it has be said.

Football wise he's quite insightful. Stands out like a beacon in comparison to someone like Owen or his brother.

He wasn't the most talented player, but had a long and successful career at the top level. That in itself is an indicator of how he used his brain as well as his feet.

I do find that he makes some very subtle points about City. On MNF I recall him talking about Aguero and opining that "he always plays on the verge of offside".

This is a phrase that I've never heard before. It's usually the shoulder of the last defender. For me it was an attempt to suggest Aguero should be flagged more often. He then put a montage together where the narrative was effectively how to nulify the threat of Aguero.

As accurate and informative as it was, I doubt he would do a similar feature about Van Persie or any other Utd striker.

And you must be mellowing. You do know he's a Rag fucker ? ;-)

Watched a US stream yesterday, don't know the commentator but Lee Dixon co-commentated, was the 1st time this season I've not turned the sound off after 5 mins. Caught some of Tyler/Chuckle in the after match thread and the difference was astonishing. Was a blessed relief to sit through 90 mins without a hint of snidey bias.

Him and Souness are the two best pundits out there, by a distance. Also have a lot of time for the likes of Danny Murphy, Don Goodman, Peter Beagrie, even Carragher (if it wasn't for that bloody accent!).Compare any of the above to the two wankers on MOTD last night, or anyone on ITV, or "little Michael" Owen.
Souness is not a good pundit. He is one of the worst. He is always wrong, gets his facts wrong, misreads tactics and misreads games. The only good thing about him is that he is his own man and gives an honest opinion.

I only watch English TV, but Neville, Carragher and Henry are leagues above every other pundit in the country. Neville being the most articulate in English. What amazes me is how Neville can have such a fantastic understanding of football and his brother Phil be such an idiot. Phil grew up speaking to Gary all his life. You would have thought some of the knowledge would have seeped in.

You know that it's been a good weekend when all we can find to moan about is that Gary Neville wasn't exactly doing the Poznan when City reduced the gap to five points.

At least Neville has the manners to shut up when the other person is talking. Something that Robbie Savage still hasn't grasped.

Can't help but respect someone who can earn a living in broadcast media/communications despite the hand that nature so cruelly dealt him.

He's Welsh; you need to make allowances.

There's lovely, see?

Souness temporarily turned on City at the end of last season, when he realised we were about to take his beloved Liverfool. Then he reversed himself on the last day, like he was grateful it was us and not the rags or something. He's still better than most of them, though. He was one of a number of them that completely lost their shit.

Picks up on things that nobody else would ever notice.
For example, when Jagielka scored that screamer against Liverpool, he said Mignolet should have saved it and shown how he was slightly crouched prior to the shot and backed it up with other examples from previous games.

No one is going to be perfect. Carragher is usually good, but it was a bit embarrassing the he was defending the shocking decision of the ref.

A good pundit is not about whether they 'favour' the team you support. It's whether they give good analysis on the game and insight into it.

If people want pundits that just pander to the team they support they cannot complain if they get pundits that pander to United and Liverpool since they are the two biggest fan bases in England.

I cannot think of one example of Souness ever making a decent point tactically or giving any insightful analysis.

I find it staggering that anyone can complain if he shows signs of bias creeping in.

If I commentated on City i'd be a TV nightmare and want every opposition player sent off and appeal for a penalty for a throw in in our own half.

The fact he only manages to show flashes of bias shows his professionalism and whilst I hated him on the field, I can't knock his punditry.

Those complaining over a bit of bias at times need to stop being such precious fuckers and imagine themselves in the same circumstances.

Key difference. You are not a professional football commentator. He is.

Listening to him yesterday and his opinions change weekly. Dzeko went down easily and was only slightly touched, contrast that to his comments about Rugheads dive where he admitted that there was not any contact but he thought that he was going to get clattered.

He compared the two yesterday saying he could understand why both players went down. The only fookin difference was one got caught by the defender and the other one hurdled the goalie then fell under his own steam.
Gary Chuckle's bias is showing through more and more.

I don't mind the bias that much even though I don't hear it as much as some do, if I was a pundit on SKY there would be no chance of me keeping as fair as Neville does so fair play to him.

He is far too good to be a pundit though, his knowledge is arguably better than a lot of top flight managers.

He will manage England one day in my opinion.

Bias is understandable it is the inconsistency that annoys me.
