Gary Neville

You admitted you'd not seen the video in full.
He said MAWM were part of the problem, not all. He's got a point.
Not really in relation to this particular attack though unless 35 counts as middle aged? Please explain who else might be responsible if MAWM are only part of the problem seeing as Neville didn't articulate it

Fitting to see Ratface joining Trump and Israel-Palestine among humanity's great disasters on the politics page.

They're all shit. Sky knew they had something different with Neville about 12 years ago - he had just finished playing, knew what it was like to play week in, week out in the premier league and had been a part of some hugely successful sides, so was, as others have mentioned a beath of fresh air at the time.

The problems started when they added Carragher (who is utterly fucking garbage) into the mix, it devolved from Neville trying to add an analytical/tactical view point into Rags vs Dippers. Keane's a prick, he's on sky because his soundbites and faux-miserable old man routine make him go viral. Redknapp looks like a dinosaur compared to the rest of them. Don't get me started on Richards.

There is no good pundit on mainstream television. Sky/BBC/TNT whoever can't run a pre-show or analysis without including and ex- Rag, Dipper or Tarquin - why do City's European games need coverage from Ferdinand, who hates us or Savage who never came close to playing in the champions league?

Football has become something Sky and co can market to 13 year olds with 10 second Tik tok attention spans, the era of analysis is over, they would much rather hear Micah make a fool of himself or Neville and Carragher argue.

Yep. Agree with all of this!

I do think Neville still at least offers insight.

Trouble is with neville is he thinks people want to know his opinion on all sorts when the truth hes a little busy twat.
Carragher the same to a lesser extent as i think hes too thick to have an opinion on much.
He shouldnt have been back on tv after spitting at a kid.

Sky have indulged these painful pair of pricks for too long. Liv/man u fan boys who sky have got this misinformed idea that fans of other teams like them and there silly opinions.

I know a guy who had dealings with the england squad when neville was involved and he said hes just an insufferable prick

It's not just poor timing. He references the attack and the defiant Jewish community and then goes on to give us a speech about patriotism. If anything he's piggybacking on the attack for his own outrage as everything he says after his intro about the attack is largely irrelevant to the specific attack he references at the beginning of the video.

He doesn't blame one on the other. Whether others want to conflate the two, is kind of up to them.

The sad thing is, were it not for operation 'display racism concealed in plain sight' over the last couple of months, the flags appearing in the aftermath of that attack would not have been in any way inappropriate. Might even have been a welcome show of belonging, to the community affected, others, and that we are all ultimately one.

But alas as the flags have been misused to send a xenophobic message, the optics are completely different, and now leave an uncomfortable feeling. Poor timing aside, he is not wrong about that.

Lets not forget that a ýear or so down the line he could be all for the union flag being raised ...........the rat has been known on many occasions to turn face when it suits his agenda ............. did he ever come out a publicly slate the Glazers when he was in there pocket ?????? No
Did he magically start slagging them off when he wasnt earning off them ???? Yes
Now that he back in at United has he since slagged them off ???? No

Thats all you need to know about him hopefully Sky kick him into touch ...........not because of his latest vid but because hes a wanker but hey if you spit at kids i guess you can get away with most things

He didn’t spit at kids.

WELL SAID.
And disliking the messenger does not make the message wrong.

Depends, on what the problem is to you.

The comment was on the current tensions and division. Not the attack.

Hope this 'MAWM' acronym doesn't become a fucking thing btw, another social media fucking hashtag. At least then add the A to the start of it, for Angry, that is kinda the key bit!

I'm a mawm. I don't feel singled out or offended by his comment. He had a point. In the same way I wouldn't expect a normal average muslim man to feel bracketed with my calling the attacker terrorist scum, or a jewish person with my having an issue with genocide by the idf, etc etc.

Which is exactly what the some responses are trying to do, add more A to the AMAWM.

It's a complicated situation, there's not one or two sides to societal problems.
Clearly, immigration is an easy target and Brexit was a big catiyst for division. That worked out well.

LGBTQ+MAWM?

I've gone and watched the Neville video again, all of it, well at least I think it's all of it. While he obviously mentioned the flags, I think the middle aged white men dividing people he referred to might have been politicians, he just worded it badly.Im sure he will now be interviewed to comment further so he may clarify his comments then. Or he may go no comment as he mainly did when somebody asked him why he was attending a Davos meeting. A poster on this thread mentioned people are calling for him to be cancelled, I hope that doesn't happen. We need to push back against the erosion and criminalisation of speech that is happening in this country.

I don't particularly like Neville. Obviously as a blue I hated Neville the player. He was the sneering, arrogant mocking face and voice of that shitehouse club under Ferguson. He never missed an opportunity to belittle our club and fanbase.
When he moved into punditry he fooled everybody for a while. He came across as knowledgeable and for a died in the wool rag pretty fair and impartial. As the years have passed the mask has slipped and he has reverted to type.
As for the political Neville, do me a favour. Has he ever struggled and faced hardship in life? I'm not sure about his childhood but from being a kid at Old Trafford he was pretty privileged. Once he made it to the first team he's earned riches that have enabled himself and his family to be cosseted from the harsh realities of life the majority of people face. He lives in a gated mansion with all the peace, quiet and security which comes with doing so brings. He can afford private healthcare and the cost of living crisis we are all experiencing doesn't touch him. I don't particularly like the term champagne socialist but Neville fits it very well.

Obviously his video has created much discussion. Here's talksports view in it.

Oh....and Gary Neville is still a wanker, a wanker.....

He goes straight from the attack to complaining about flags. He's filming on his walk to work rather than making a prepared speech so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't intend to conflate two issues whilst still contending he did :) He offered no understanding of what might have motivated the Synagogue attacker.

I agree with him that there are divisive voices in society. In this instance his was one of them and in relation to what motivated the Synagogue attacker it would be pretty unlikely it was a AWMAM voice. So in a video that starts with a reflection on the Synagogue attack that would have been a better target for his video

No but his mate did and kept his job now do you believe that being an ex City it would have happened ?????
Course folk are allowed to change there mind but when it suits there agenda and lines there pockets it becomes different.

Put it this way if some company offered to pay his club Salford City a vast amount of money to display the union jack all over that ground do you believe he would object to it going on his record ???????
