I didn't know anyone had set fire to a mosque, which is why I didn't mention it.

But whatever the religion, it's horrific that people using places of worship, and the places themselves, are subject to hate attacks. Yesterday I had to drive down to the Fort Retail Park, so went through Prestwich, Crumpsall & Cheetham Hill. There was a huge police presence of course, including cars and police officers on the beat. I drove past mosques that had visible security outside. If you can't pray in peace then things have gone very wrong somewhere.

A lucky escape I found out a few years later although it was the first time I'd ever seen goat cheese in real life and just not heard about it on TV.

I've been to Romania twice; not long after the revolution so it's likely very different now. My kids have been a couple of times, most recently this summer, and it sounds much more modern but with some of the old ways of thinking still around.

Most of the Romanian people i know in the UK are hard working and smart who are proud of their country but also proud of the lives they're building in the UK. A couple of years ago I was at a wedding here in the UK were a Romanian guy married a Polish woman. It was fun to see the different traditions but the couple quickly realised most of the British people had left so stopped speaking English leaving me and my wife pretty confused about why the bride was being "kidnapped" and why the groom had to pay ransom. Fun times.

Poles are very different to Romanians.

My local barber is Iranian or, as he calls it, Persian. Cracking team and, as you say, very refined.

And frankly the Yaxley Lennon's of this world have a lot of white middle aged angry men eating out their hands. I have no problem with Neville pointing this out.

My grandad was Polish although we find out a few years ago he was actually born and lived in Lithuania with a flexible border. This was after we had done the pilgrimage to see the "home" country after he died. Little did we know we were in the wrong country!
